The Dutch will go anywhere. The look of incredulity on Kony’s face when he pipes up about ‘atrocities’ is priceless. Somehow I don’t think Kony is a big subscriber to western morality.
Using ‘political jargon’ (eg ‘insurgency’ ‘rights’ ‘rebels’ etc.) to explain what is going on in Uganda is nothing less than obfuscation on behalf of the so-called journalist quack-speaker.
As for ’solving’ Uganda’s ‘problems’? Someone should ask Bono where he’s hoarding all the teddy bears….
Very powerful commentary on the state of the human condition in Uganda as well as on planet earth! If we send troops in to break it up and sort things out we’re labeled jack booted thugs and vilified by the rest of the world. If we send money and or tons of food to help the victims, the money disappears down a rat hole and the food doesn’t go where it’s intended, more often than not found rotting somewhere. If we do nothing we are cold hearted and cruel. Negotiations usually end with meaningless paperwork that isn’t worth the time taken to print. So it will continue until there’s total agreement on how to fix the problems. So it will continue because this political football game is fueled by political rhetoric… Win at all costs, the ends justify the means. So what do we do when there are millions who will not see this footage because they’re more worried about getting FREE music?

It’s too bad that Africa doesn’t have oil. If they did, we (the US) would “care” about them and there’d be rhetoric regarding freeing the African people. Then we’d go in there with our troops to “stop the war”. We may steal their oil, but at least the war and killing would eventually end.

The failure of some viewers to understand that oil *IS* a huge part of what the war in the Sudan is about is simply shocking. Where have these people been? Sudan has oil, mainly in the south. The arab/muslim government situated in the resource-poor north dominates the largely christian/black african south, for the purpose of exploiting the oil there. China is a big customer, so the US just lets it all go…. And Uganda? they just happen to be on Sudan’s border, in addition to having their own problems.

From the Zogby Int’l poll released on Monday:
1. 75% of Americans could correctly identify two of Snow White’s seven dwarfs while only 25% could name two Supreme Court Justices.
2. 57 % could identify J.K. Rowling’s fictional boy wizard as Harry Potter, while only 50% could name the British prime minister, Tony Blair.
3. Asked what planet Superman was from, 60% named the fictional planet Krypton, while only 37% knew that Mercury is the planet closest to the sun.
4. 74% could name the Three Stooges while only 42% could name the three branches of government.

It seems the Rocketboom audience is split between those who crave and desire lighthearted goofy news about a society of excess and those who want hard boiled reporting about world affairs.

Fantastic footage. This is truly unique content that is so rare. A primary original source wiht relevant content. This should be used in journalism schools to show how its done. If there was a Pulitzer price for short video news, this one would be hard to beat. The faces of these boys are unforgettable, and Kony becomes a person. This is journalism as its best, and the choice for this footage lets rocketboom share the honor. Wonderful!
