  6. Why use a map as a background? Isn’t Joanne’s voice indicative of the world savy nature of RB 2.0? Why not have art images be the background?

  14. Good show, nice quirkly stories and fun to watch JC as usual. Did seem a bit darker in terms of picture quality today and I miss JC’s funny chair send-off at the end…that should be a staple of the show!

I like JC better she is easier to watch. Amanda was like a Blue LED - pretty but hard to focus on and very bright. JC is more like the host of a tv show. Thanks JC for making each episode interesting and fun to watch.

  19. “Nothing comes from nothing” is from King Lear. (Act I, Scene 1, line 92, “Nothing can come of nothing: speak again.”)

Lear disinherits his daughter Cordelia because she doesn’t flatter him in the manner of his other daughters. The irony is that she is his only sincerely loving child.

Joanne’s use of it here seems to be a clue to some kind of puzzle, but heck if I know what it’s pointing to.

  20. I’ve got an idea for the map:
Switch to a green screen and use Google map satelite images of various locales. The spot of the day could be chosen based on relevance to one of the stories or could be used as a kind of “Where in the world is Joanne Colan?” thing. Granted, this would take more work and might be difficult on a daily basis, but would offer an added point of interest.

    Keep up the good work.

  25. Bratwurst eating contest? Sen. Liberman? These are stories I expect from my local news show (and which I got last nigth) not from a cutting edge, quirky online video blog. It’s becoming less quirky and cutting edge every day. There’s barely enough for me to keep cheking back, but in the hope that it returns, I’ll still watch. Good luck!

  31. I suspect the comment at 1:32 PM was not really from Drew of RB. As I mentioned yesterday, I suggest moving useless comments to another list so everyone else does not need to wade through them, but curious people can still see what was censored.

  34. As for he King Lear quote - here is my spin. Leiberman has been loyal to his party. The bone of contention has been his support of the war effort. Thus the Demoratic party has dissed him. Interesting how Hillary gets to stick around though. This is a shame because he has been a moderating voice in a very divided and divisive political climate. He will be running as an independent. This will be interesting to watch.

  43. A couple of the things wrong with deleting “negative” comments.

    1) It causes the tone of the comments section to ring false. Like a bald man with a comb-over, you mainly kid only yourself.

    2) It makes it look as if you can’t take a punch.

Looks like Libeman will need an entirely new “gig”.

Calls to the future seem to have their “hang-ups”. I probably shouldn’t take that “tone”.

    Beard contest? Sounds Grew-some.

I don’t think I could stomach all those bratwurst.

Just remember, if you’re nose runs and your feet smell, you’re probably put together backwards.

  52. notes on new rocketboom

    1) Joanne is a huge improvement

    2) she actually appears constrained by the current format, behind a desk sitting down. she seemed much more natural, accessable and more relaxed outside during the fast-walking segment on Fri. she seems to be better when able to move around more

    3) suggest a format like standing up or on a barstool-type chair without the desk, with topic-based background.

or simply sitting on top of the desk….

    4) if she is not reading from the papers she is holding then they are a distraction for everyone involved.

    5) regarding content - I believe viewers are looking forward to more personal comments on the sites being featured. the interesting part is rocketboom’s, and thus joanne’s take on what these sites mean in the larger life context. This site seems like it should be about your perspective, which is attractive to viewers to the extent that we somehow resonate with it.

    6) one perhaps fun idea might be to show sites that have a subtle commonality that only becomes obvious at the end of the segment, something that viewers have to look for…

    that’s all for now

  53. oh yeah - one more suggestion

stop all of your public/internet talk about Amanda, business issues, legal issues, rocketboom future plans, etc. this stuff is a distraction from the message. I believe that most folks no longer care about the transition, and you are actually doing more harm by bringing it up…
