That was interesting, like Amanda was waiting on ME to tell her some stories. I have no stories to tell, nary a joke. Have a wonderful 2006 Day of Silence!
I personally like the way Amanda’s hair moves ever so slightly from some air source (fan perhaps). It is virtually the only animated activity for most of this post. This makes me revisit all those dreams I have of mass market video in general, if only there really was a “silence” button that not only muted the audio but also blanked the video as well.
I found myself on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Amanda would talk or bring some emotion to the clip.
It’s in the silence that we hear the most.
I am curious if you were able to do this on the first try or did it take several takes. I thought I saw you fighting back a smile once or twice.
It’s never knowing what to expect each day that keeps me coming back for more.
So in honor of the show I am going silent
“Starting Now!”
Today’s telepathic show was as awesome as your outfit.
When you become a disciple of Amandology, you learn how to communicate through mere transmission of thought. The hair flutter from time to time is used to emphasize certain emotions. This too will be taught to you. AS you have witnessed, the world would become a more peaceful place if we all practiced Amandology. Imagine, a world without cell phones! Thank you. Loved the 3rd story. Harigato to you too, fair haired leader.
I have been amused by your antics for a month or so and now find I cannot continue to waste time with your vblog. Your exploration of the web is humorous and sometimes informative but coupled with your need to express your personal liberal opinions makes the whole experience dubious. So thanks for the good technical data but no thanks for other stuff I hear it enough from the regular press.
Amanda, you looked very lovely and sophisticated in today’s blog;however,I still don’t get the silence.what is the meaning of all this?
I would like to be educated.keep up the good work.
At first I was thinking, boy, this is a waste. Then it hit me! Day of Silence. As a gay man, I want to say thanks for your support! I’m sure it’s driving some people mad (judging by some of the other comments). Kudos!!
I think it’s great that you raise causes that you support on rb. After all it is your show.
That said, two things imo would have made this a little more useful.
1) You daily links should have linked the cause.
2) 4m 33s is longer than most of your other shows. You get the point after the first minute, maybe two. After that, the viewer’s time is simply wasted, especially if they don’t know what the moments of silence are for.
Why is it that when anyone does a “moment/day/hour of silence” they feel as if it has to be some solemn and grim event. Nobody ever does a moment of silence with a grin on their face, a frown, or any other type of emotion besides the stern-faced look as if to say “LOOK AT ME! I’m importantly straight faced and tight lipped while being completely silent.”
Far too many people take the notion of a “moment of silence” to mean stop everything you’re doing and stare solemnly into the void as many do sitting in the pews at church during a particularly boring sermon. Why can’t a moment of silence be done while accomplishing something nuturing and beneficial to the mind, like reading a book or writing in a journal? I think you really could have done a much better job with this one Amanda and the RB team. You are very talented and creative individuals, and although I grealty appreciated the few minutes of silence you bestowed upon us today, you really could have used it to get a better message out.
nice episode. it’s different and long enough to feel that pressure silence creates. it would have been nice to see an url or sth at the end that explained what it all was about though. i felt the emptiness of a dear person’s death all along the episode.
wow, I didn’t know about the cause, I’m from latinamerica and thanks to your “silent promotion” of tolerance I can go and let other people in my country know about this
I must confess I found this disconcerting. Watching Rocketboom over a period of time it seems natural to feel a connection with Amanda and to watch her sans twinkle made me instantly think someone had wronged her. Never having heard of “Day of silence” (Canadian eh) I’m left unsure of the motive (would a link not have been silent?) but will continue to be one of Amanda’s loyal viewers because we are in her corner.
Reading a few comments I realized that some people didn’t get it. (I think its for the Walmart ‘issueu’, correct?) I guess people need to be told what the protest is about, so they’ll ‘get it’. If, not, they think its something stupi. I guess “they’re” the stupid for not ‘getting it’.
Never the less, its the video with more comments, how about that!
Wasn’t today the day for the Walmart rallys? Is that why the quiet 3 mins or was it the day of silence?? will we ever know stay tuned for another exciting eposode of Rocketboom!!
I didn’t understand till I read the blog. I liked it even when I didn’t understand it. It was a moment out of my day that I stopped and reflected on what in the world was going on. Not something I do often. Thanks for the break in my day.
I was about to ask about John Cage and his piece 4′33″ I downloaded the episode through Firefox (the episode borked in Democracy for some odd reason, the episode was exactly 4 minutes 33 seconds in length. Day of Silence was a good enough reason (and Amanda looks well nice in a suit)
Interesting and creative way to express yourself. Having not heard of “day of silence” before this, I was baffled. But your show DID make me think about it and, thanks to the commenters before me, I was able to visit their site and see what it was about. So I guess it’s “mission accomplished” for you, although I would’ve preferred (and was expecting) to see you hold up a sign at the end with the point of the broadcast.
And since you shared your views, I’ll share mine. I’m not a supporter of any gay, transsexual or any other unnatural sexual “preference”. In that light, I shall not be silent today.
That said, I do NOT support bullying in any way for any reason. If the point was purely to speak out against bullying, I’d be with you.
I find the comments equally interesting today (well, most days, but more so today). I’m especially intrigued by the complaints from people who seem to believe they paid for RB and therefore didn’t get their money’s worth today.
I recall Conan O’Brian’s first broadcast following 911: instead of his usual opening, he came out and announced that he just didn’t feel like being funny that day. His reflections, also, were more poinient due to the deviation from the normal routine.
Hi Amanda,
Big fan of yours. Loved the telepathic broadcast. We used to do this back in Atlantis. Since I am a telepath, I caught the part where you said that you wanted to meet me and learn more about my abilities. However the connection faded out. Please re-transmit the coordinates for our meeting on your next broadcast !! LOL :-)
Bob :-)
I like it. I dumped my TV 4 years ago, because I caught myself just watching pretty TV hosts with the speakers turned off. It was so relaxing. So why watching it at all, you know?
This is the first time *ever* Amanda wasn’t smiling. This is not you Amanda. This is the Dar Side of Amanda. Have you joined the force ?
Explain it for me in tomorrow’s show. Hey, I’m from Belgium.
I WAS JUST THINKING TODAY HOW WOMEN AS A GROUP SHOULD LEARN TO TALK LESS. OOPS! I HOPE THAT WASNT TOO SEXIST. I WATCHED THE WHOLE SHOW AND WILL WATCH AGAIN TOMORROW.
pretty lame. didn’t seem to apply to the day of silence since the silence they refer to is the silence of the bullies who ridicule the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in schools. are you in school, amanda? are you a bully? if the answer to either of these is “no,” then you shouldn’t be silent.
This silent treatment was a good way to get me to visit the web page. I am glad though that I have dsl now because I would probable have been be annoyed if the hour download resulted in this video. It is OK with me if you occasionally have videos like this one. Keep vlogging!
Amanda…You are mighty quiet today? Is this passive aggressive ?
We must be protesting something today.
Either that, or a famous mime passed away yesterday.
I totally got you guys vblog today! you truely have the world in a triangle head lock! “the world says, sorry…..uncle”
I think it is great that you are working on direct mind to mind transmission. Keep up the good work.
..is that you John Wayne, or is this me?..
Is that a new suite? You look marvelous. Is my dinner in the microwave?
I got it immediately.
http://www.dayofsilence.org/
Way to show your support, ‘Manda! :-)
the power of silence is amazing.
Nicely done.
The second news item was the best. After that it got a bit slow.
Highly creative content, today.
A little quiet for my taste though.
Amanda, you look so uncomfortable. You weren’t even in your body for most of this. Can you feel that? It made me sad. You can shift this is you want…
Where are the links to today’s stories?
That was interesting, like Amanda was waiting on ME to tell her some stories. I have no stories to tell, nary a joke. Have a wonderful 2006 Day of Silence!
OK, but why didn’t they send Manda a “Day of Silence” t-shirt?
very good .. .
more is said with silence .. .
like the day of silence.
this ought to be easy for the RB-Japan folks to translate!
Does John Cage get royalties from this episode?
Today’s Rocketboom left me speechless.
Once a very wise person said…………………………………………NOTHING.
Stupid post today!!! If you ran out of material, just repost an old favorite. Come on, you guys can really do better.
it’s these silent shows that make me realise i never watch rocketboom for the items ;)
Mark Twain twice said.
It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.
Noise proves nothing. Often a hen who has merely laid an egg cackles as if she has laid an asteroid.
It must be one of those days. Sort of Queer Eye for the Straight Girl.
Was that 3′47″ ? I did not think to time it. It was good opportunity to deconstruct Amanda as image. Cheers.

This makes me revisit all those dreams I have of mass market video in general, if only there really was a “silence” button that not only muted the audio but also blanked the video as well.
I am highly moved by your “silent promotion” of tolerance and social evolution.
What an excellent way to dedicate a video blog.
WOW

This is silence for gays in schools isn’t it. Very touching. I’m impressed.

Today i missed your tee shirt.
you do have beautiful eyes.
In general you had more to say today than the last two weeks of Rocketboom.
Amanda, you looked very lovely and sophisticated in today’s blog;however,I still don’t get the silence.what is the meaning of all this?
I would like to be educated.keep up the good work.
lack of ideas?
At first I felt like I was in trouble, but now that I know aobut the Day of Silence today’s vlog is very moving.
I get it.
Thanks Amanda.
At first I was thinking, boy, this is a waste. Then it hit me! Day of Silence. As a gay man, I want to say thanks for your support! I’m sure it’s driving some people mad (judging by some of the other comments). Kudos!!
really enjoy your performance today. watching pretty face acting mutely is really different feeling.
nice trial !
Very creative.. once again.
Whoa ! Made it famous without even a link to the website of the cause celebre - the power of AMANDABOOM -
sometimes ok
(^^;)

Well done Amanda. Thanks.
“But you’re wasting my time!” = I’m too intellectually lazy to stop and think for four short minutes about what it’s like to be gay. Grow up, people.
Great idea to introduce a new audience to the “Day of Silence Project”. Well done.
what’s up?
doesn’t look good…
watch out ZeFrank is giving you a run for your money
WTF–bad day, Barbie?
Only ROCKETBOOM could get us to sit and do nothing for eight minutes . . .
Way to go!
nice episode. it’s different and long enough to feel that pressure silence creates. it would have been nice to see an url or sth at the end that explained what it all was about though. i felt the emptiness of a dear person’s death all along the episode.
It amazes me how so many people are afraid of silence.
Of being with themselves.
Did you know your brain is 95%- 98% silent? That’s right, ask a knowledgeable neuro-scientist.
harigato!
do you have to look at me like that?
Slow news day?
Or commentary on Tony Snow…
BRILLIANT!
http://www.dayofsilence.org/
Okay Amanda you avant garde video blogger. A veritable John Cage of the blogosphere.
I am not a fan of this but hey to each her own.
GO Cats!
How many takes did it take to get through it without a case of the giggles setting in?
I know I couldn’t do it.
Bravo!
Another DADA moment!
Just let the RB’s fans fill in the blanks.
Quiet warm regards for Amanda, Drew, Mario.
people don’t think for 5 cent before they post a comment. I got it immidiatly too ;) Liked it very much!
whay is this almost theraputic?
First there was Casual Friday.
Today’s episode could be the inspiration for….
daa-tada!
!!!ESP Wednesday!!!
Great way to show your support RB!
wow, I didn’t know about the cause, I’m from latinamerica and thanks to your “silent promotion” of tolerance I can go and let other people in my country know about this
BORING! Thanks for wasting my time.

These other clowns in the comments area don’t understand, but I heard every word of your telepathic news!
Oh of course I went and checked out the “Day of Silence” links you sillies, that’s what “boomers” do.
Amanda, while I can aspirate your free form Jazz interpretation of the famous silent symphony some of us do have download limits to worry about.
If I had the money for a better broadband connection, I would be very amused.
Wasn’t today the day for the Walmart rallys? Is that why the quiet 3 mins or was it the day of silence?? will we ever know stay tuned for another exciting eposode of Rocketboom!!
Does the breeze in the studio make your eyes dry?
Thanks for supporting the day of silence Manda!
http://www.dayofsilence.org/
Also iTunes Rocketboom does not seem to be working right now. Maybe its just an Irish thing.
I just wish you’d ended with a quiet but forceful, “You go, girl.”
I didn’t understand till I read the blog. I liked it even when I didn’t understand it. It was a moment out of my day that I stopped and reflected on what in the world was going on. Not something I do often. Thanks for the break in my day.
yeay 4:33
Not sure I understood todays vlog, but that’s ok it was still great. You’ve become my morning news…..LOVE THE SHOW……

Just wondering if your hair was moving because you were exhaling from your nose or if you had a small intermittant breeze blowing at you?
Just in case you were unaware, the iTunes feed isn’t working. I’m guessing that isn’t part of the day of silence event.
best ep ever.
Sounds GREAT!
Amanda,
The vlog that can be spoken is not the eternal vlog.
The silent space with your still awareness at the center was magnificent. You said it all by saying nothing.
I hope others will follow your lead and give us more space to think and feel.
Rocketboom on…
I find the comments equally interesting today (well, most days, but more so today). I’m especially intrigued by the complaints from people who seem to believe they paid for RB and therefore didn’t get their money’s worth today.

At first, I didn’t think you said anything.
Then, I’m sure you said it.
You remembered me on my birthday and said so.
Thanks amanda.
I kept watching worried that there was going to be a “screamer” gag at the end.
Wow, just wow.
yeah this was awesome. i got it right away. gay rights yo! alot of people were doing this today at my school
Very zen - Made me realize how sick I am of people talking at me.
This is the second episode I ever saw. Now I’m hooked.

lame. It seems liberals use EVERY aspect of their life to lecture people. Even silence.
I even agree with the end goal, but I’m so damn tired people and their agendas constantly working a way into every aspect of life.
Here’s a vlog, and here is who I think should be in congress.
Here’s a vlog, and you should hate Wal-Mart.
Here’s a vlog, and here is what you should think of gay rights.
Can we have a day of silence for all those people who can think for themselves and don’t need things like this injected into EVERYTHING!
That was crap. “Day of Silence” my foot.
I like it. I dumped my TV 4 years ago, because I caught myself just watching pretty TV hosts with the speakers turned off. It was so relaxing. So why watching it at all, you know?
Wonderful!
very frightening, amanda - i was married to the silence and that cold stare for nearly 10 years. I still don’t know what i did to piss her off.
No Audio, Blank Stare..Are the pages blank too?
Turn the fan to “11″

i thought about this. the noise that created a huge silence.
that was lame.
Amanda! You got a dirty mind. Keep your thoughts to yourself! :)
Darn performance art anyway.
I once saw a women eat a fomal dinner in a lions cage at the zoo. Thank heaven for FF.
Ralph

4:33 ! I love it! (and the bow at the end was perfect!)
Didn’t someone just get sued for copyright infringement for performing this piece? Are you guys fighting the DMCA here?
Anyhoo, good job- nice to get a little performance art in the afternoon podcast batch.
Thanks!
A quiet shame for a non-cause.
next time you can use my chair under the avocado tree out back….
I had “fun” with my cursor arrow.
*mutter mutter*
I want value for my bandwidth.
*grumble grumble*
I WAS JUST THINKING TODAY HOW WOMEN AS A GROUP SHOULD LEARN TO TALK LESS. OOPS! I HOPE THAT WASNT TOO SEXIST. I WATCHED THE WHOLE SHOW AND WILL WATCH AGAIN TOMORROW.
Amanda - I got it right away. During silence my mind slipped into a thought of mental telepathy and I missed the URL for the nude pillow fight:)
I was both very interested, and even more lost.
holy persistance of vision batman, i can still see her!
actually, i think that was kinda neat, there’s nothing more elegant than nothing
Well done Amanda. It’s funny how people even bring politics into all of this. “She was silent in a liberal way”!
Great pause in daily life to just think. Thanks for sharing.
I love that rotating fan action.
Have we been bad?
Are you training to be a supermodel now?
Come to think of it, you probably could succeed at that, although I don’t know how tall you are.
Wow… You have fantastic moving hair… thats for that…
Almost twice the average number of comments today. Generated over NOTHING!
There must be some deep reason for this, but I don’t know what it is.
pretty lame. didn’t seem to apply to the day of silence since the silence they refer to is the silence of the bullies who ridicule the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people in schools. are you in school, amanda? are you a bully? if the answer to either of these is “no,” then you shouldn’t be silent.
very disappointing and uncreative show.
