I found this vblog on the second life virtual world quite interesting. For some reason, Dungeons and Dragons came to mind when perusing the website. I never played it as a kid, but I’ll betcha those that did would really enjoy setting up a virtual world based on the fantasy game. Any rate, thanks for the clip, it always amazes me what is out there. –Big Joe.
Wow… that looks incredible!
Cool! Amanda, it was a total pleasure interviewing you in Second Life a couple of months back. We’ll definitely have to hook Rocketboom up with an SL correspondent to vlog interesting events in that world like the stuff covered by http://secondlife.blogs.com and http://secondlifeherald.com. Along those lines, I think you’ll get a total kick out of this comedy talk show made in the Halo video game: http://www.thisspartanlife.com/1002_mod2.html.
For those with a burning interest in all this, the first Second Life Community Convention is coming to the New York Law School on October 8-9 (http://slconvention.org) back-to-back with the State of Play conference on law, video games, and virtual worlds (http://nyls.edu/stateofplay). Nephilaine (interviewed in the trailer here) and Pierce (the filmmaker) will be there along with a bunch of other entrepreneurial SL residents and the creators of the platform. That’ll be *quite* the get-together :-).
Rocketboom on!
Second Life is cool. Snowcrash anyone??? “There” are other worlds out “there” too :)
I still playing “sims2″ now, so what’s big different with “secondlife”?!
the difference between second life, and the other virtual worlds (there, sims, wow, everquest, etc…) is that second life’s world is completely (and i mean completely) built by its users. the core of the game is exposed, and it allows anyone to (more or less) build anything.
for example - i’ve built (and i sell in game, if you’ve got some cash to spare) “erogenous zones”. that’s not possible in the other worlds.

Hopefully helpful: Torley Torgeson, Second Life’s most beloved watermelon-colored muse, has a nice write-up and a couple of pics from her recent metaverse-trotting experiences across a bunch of different social virtual worlds, including There and The Sims Online at
http://torley.blog-city.com/macross_the_universe.htm . You can read why she personally doesn’t dig There and slides by The Sims (note: the online version, not what you’re playing with TS2, Ricky). It’s a great read, translating the Torley identity from world to world to world.
Thanx for the link, Jerry… and thanx for bringing my attention here! Nice to see this.
Amanda, if I may ask… what is your SL name? Looks like something-Nerd?
You continue to impress.
The best part is… it’s never expected. It just happens, over and over.
Cool stuff. Thanks. Loved it.
I have to admit complete ignorance to this stuff. I don’t know how it works. However, my friend Matt plays Everquest and I think that’s neat, although he hasn’t gotten so attached to his characters that he kills himself when they die. Thank goodness for that.
It’s all a little creepy to me. I guess I am in the wrong generation. In my day we played the chess and the Scrabble or else we went outside and kicked a can. We made our own fun. Things sure have changed.
cant see the QT- only audio- anyone else having this problem? or am i a maxi-zoom-technoweenie?
love the show.
