  1. lets see…mayor/governor has/had NO plan for mandatory evacuation. NO emergency plan, Bush’s fault. Governor has yet to give LA National Guard control to Feds. Bush’s fault. Global warming. Bush’s fault. No worry, we saved. Finally a solution.
    Liberal Plan —-Bush did it.

  2. To be really liberally leftwing, they could have shown Bush strumming a guitar, and Condi shopping for shoes. But the clips of FoxNews failing to spin this as a Fed success, then you know Bush is in trouble.

Bush-bashing aside, this looks bad internationally. A quote that is appearing in many newspapers abroad, from Sajeewa Chinthaka, 36, of Sri Lanka, where the tsunami killed more than 30,000: ”It’s disgusting. Not a single tourist caught in the tsunami was mugged. We can easily see where the civilized part of the world’s population is.”

How can anyone take America seriously in their push for US-style democracy around the world?

  3. Regardless of how incompetent the democratic-controlled local and state government performed, the fact that the Bush and FEMA is letting bureaucracy serve as a convenient excuse to let the poor of New Orleans be held as virtual hostages speaks volumes. In the UK, the diplomatic missions are under fire for seeking permission before taking life-saving action.

Partisan politics is a distraction from the important questions. Engineers had predicted at least one year ago that levee failure would happen under a cat4 hurricane, so why did both parties ignore them, and had no workable evacuation plan put in place?

The Gov. requested federal assistance the day before the hurricane hit.

Also, Bush sent in the National Guard on 9/12/01 without forcing the Mayor or Governor of New York to relinguish their control.

Maybe you should find some new talking points eh?

    Great job as always Rocketboom.

i say keep up the bush bashing. i honestly don’t see how anyone can believe that that man is anything but greedy, stupid, and childish. his little speech from the runway in new orleans was just appauling. now is not the time for joking about your drug and alcohol dependancy as a young adult, mr. bush.

  7. I think the funniest thing is that you quote “The Seditious Rag” aka “The New York Crimes”, pardon me “The New York Times,” on anything.

All-in-all though, the more incompetent government officials caught on video the better!

  9. Why would anyone be surprised at the bumbling of the government? Who ever suggested that the needs of the people, even in major crisis, has any priority? They think the beltway is the center of the universe. They only respect the powerful. Poor people, of any race, weld no power; receive attention. In Bush’s finest moments he just brushes closely up to sincerity…

  10. Kanye should stick to what he does good…music. Even though his latest album isn’t that great, good thing I never paid for it!

Oh and Bush does hate black people, just like the rest of the world. Everyone hates black people, even black people hate black people.

Alot of the problems stem from people “relying” on the government too much. Government is slow to react, to anything!

  13. I thought the reason we had a Federal Emergency Management Agency was to handle terrible events like this. I thought the Department of Homeland Security was setup to identify weak points in our nations defense. Say what you will about the Administration but there has clearly been a failure by our federal government to provide the services we pay for. How can anyone expect a state to handle this type of disaster? Clearly no one can, that is the purpose of FEMA and it failed to provide the immediate assistance when it was needed.

Matt: yea, I know it was a little difficult to watch. I had to use a small video camera to get most of this footage because the authorities in the GRB did not allow video cameras inside. I tried to manipulate the settings later, but had to rush this out to Andrew in NY quickly. please forgive me. ;)

  17. Matthew: you are correct. I learned NO did have a plan, but did not follow it as you stated.

Phydeaux: As I understand it (which ain’t sayin’ much) is even though the “Governor DID request Federal aid” She has to specifically request the kind of help she needs from the President. (i.e. National Guard). The President is constitutionally bound from sending the guard in, until then. The Governor was late in doing that.

that’s it. i am outta here. what was once an amusing diversion is now a republican bashing convention. don’t suppose you will include the NYT op ed that lays this entire issue at the feet of the 2 democratic morons who run NO and LA. their misdirected anger really should be placed at the mirror.

i am from LA and can speak from experience about the state and that city. the people voted in this ineptness and sadly, they have paid with their lives. i can only hope that the upcoming investigations will point out how much the democratic leadership failed those people.

for you folks, it’s your show, you will obviously twist it to your viewpoint. when are you going to have roger begin doing reports for you? he would fit right in.

for me, you are now tuned out.

  23. I’m becoming tired of the Bush apologists who cry foul when someone points out the horrendous response to Hurricane Katrina. “Quit politicizing it!” “Don’t play the ‘Blame Game’!” “It was all the fault of the local authorities!”

Sorry folks, it was not all the fault of the local government! Yes, there is fault to find on every level of this tragedy, and people will be held accountable for their roles in this disaster! But that does not negate the responsibility of the Bush administration! Check this link for a timeline of the disaster: http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Hurricane_Katrina_Chronology

Face it! The buck stops with Bush! He installed political cronies with zero experience into sensitive roles, and now people have paid with their lives! If for no other reason, Bush should be impeached! To wit: From the director of FEMA’s own hand (undersecretary Brown), the WRITTEN directive for the initial 1000 employees that were to be dispatched to LA and MS were first to receive 24 hours worth of training before going to their jobs, and that part of their job was to “present a positive image” of FEMA to the press. Shouldn’t they have been trained for hurricane disasters BEFORE the hurricane season??? This delayed their arrival by two days for the initial 1000, and for an additional 1000, they were expected to be there in at least a week! And none of them were ordered to go until the TUESDAY following the storm! This is unnacceptable by any standard (even the short-bus measuring stick that the media uses to gauge Bush’s accomplishments).

Good job, Rocketboom! If the Bush apologists leave, it’s their loss. Keep doing what you’re doing (’cept maybe for the “Left Eye Lopes” thing)!

  24. Pardon me, a correction to make about my prior post. I made an error when I said the following: “And none of them were ordered to go until the TUESDAY following the storm!”

In actuality, the amount of time that FEMA director Brown waited to dispatch employees to the gulf region was not 24 hours, but rather 5 hours AFTER the storm made landfall. It is still important to note that he had authority to send them there on the prior SATURDAY, instead of MONDAY!

  25. My heart goes out to all the Katrina hurricane victims and I hope that their oddisey comes to a happy ending.

That said, in my small part of the world, were we get hit by similar disasters every year, nobody (no telethons, no celebrity fund raising, no FEMA) comes to the rescue of the indigenous PEOPLE (which must be of a lesser variety of the human race because nobody gives a shit) and they are left to their own resources (meager as they might be) to put their lives back together.

So I am a bit jaded when I see all of the hullabaloo (Rocketboom included) about the poor people of New Orleans and their fate. Have we forgoten that people have been starving to death in Africa for many years? Did you know that America everyday throws away enough food to feed all of Latin America?

Here is a newsflash: Conquest, War, Famine and Death are doing pretty well in 2k5 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

My point is that that the media supposedly acts as our collective concious but in reality has become our daily freak show. Let’s get that daily dose of shock because the show must go on. I know where to get more of the same. The web’s great rediming value as media is in it’s variety. Let’s cut the histerics and get back to Rocketboom’s great “street level” coverage. Sometimes I get the feeling this is more about Amanada’s portfolio than a great product (which it can be). In short, I drink to forget so please don’t add to my bar tab!
