  1. Amanda:

I just made a donation in your name to the Hurricane relief fund. Your work is helping in more ways than you know.

  3. Horrific footage…..
However, there is good news ! We just heard from our cousins in Biloxi, Mississippi. They are alive and well. Strangely, their cell phone would not let them make phone calls but, for whatever reason, would let them text messege, so they got word out that way.

  5. A real relief after yesterday’s episode. The desire to interpret the event, the tragedy as it unfolds, as “art” was a bad move, I think. Obviously your intentions were good, still… I don’t know. Glad today you stuck with the news.

  6. As bad as this may sound, I’ve been trying to figure out how to get into New Orleans for the past few days. I’m a photographer and would die to get in. Does anyone know if it’s possible?

I will hopefully be giving andrew and amanda more footage as I get things organized here in Houston. Glad you all enjoyed.

Drifty: Only way I know into New Orleans is from the north, and it is by boat. Or, you can coordinate with The Red Cross and they may take you in. If I find any more information, I will let you know.

  8. Thank you for offering an alternative to the grim and sensationalized “angry looters” angle the media has been pushing. This is fantastic and I’d love to do what I can to help…

  12. I thought yesterday’s Rocketboom was the most moving thing I had seen on the web, until today’s. Amanda, thank you for showing us all, in both episodes, what the Machine isn’t set up to make us see. I too donated directly as a result of these episodes - the regular news media just isn’t conveying this with the same power. Stay strong - until the entire world is visible through such clear lenses.

  14. Thats some great footage, thanks for sharing. It’s cool to see it all unfolding in front of me instead of watching a news anchor give a synopsis.

  15. Thank you for this. It helps us understand.

And it shows that some video doesn’t need inane commentary from a cable news “personality” to convey the desperation of a situation.

  17. This is footage is unique. It’s a “rubber meets the road” type of piece. My favorite part is the turning of the camera from the face of the reporter to the aftermath of the storm. Journalist and cameraman in 1 is truly guerilla and an icon of indie media.

The great thing about art and the piece that you produced last time is that good or bad people reacted to it. Thats a success.

  19. From sunny and too far away Italy,I didn’t realize the full tragedy of what happened in New Orleans, Lousiana and Mississipi until I saw the your footage on 1st and 2nd september.
Now I am thankfull of being a fan of rocketboom and Amanda, because they succeded to cut through the official news coverage, and the weight I feel now on my heart will stay and won’t let me never forget that, even when nobody speaks of them, there are always people suffering and in need of our help.

  20. I don’t necessarily agree with the quick access removal of Katrina part 1, but I could see how upset many viewers were.

But thats an effect of having a Vlog, everybody gets to immediatley post opinions on the topic.

  21. When the news media shows over and over some slug looting a tv, one takes a callous view of the disaster and is moved towards knee-jerk action by wanting to blow his or her head off. Yet, food and other items taken for survival is understandable. When clips like the one presented here is shown,it moves one to realize the scope of this tragedy more than words can express and also has a powerful way of motivating one to positively help in some way no matter how small.

  22. I wasn hoping that my immediate contribution to the red crsoo in Amandas name would spur the thousands of Amanda fans into doing the same thing. C’mon, people, $25? And you can send it to Amanda’s agent’s address, so you’ll know that she’ll see it.

Think of it: Amnda holds a card from you in her own genious, humoristic hands, and all it cost you was $25 and a set of meals for a familty. How can you resist?

The coordinates are there, would be nice if someone knows how to set it up.
