Cool! well, siriously i have to say he proves that you its useless to train 6 months and compete in a sport and be world champion or something… c’mon… sumo wrestling? for a skinny guy? i wondered if he thought he stood a chance…
Hello Amanda,
very, very interesting this one..
great job !
–
jere from france..
Sort of a modern day George Plimpton !
Dr Phibes,
before anything else, look at the link provided by RB … you will find:
“Most important, you don’t have to be fat. Unlike professional sumo, which only exists in Japan, amateur sumo is broken into weight classes, so competitors don’t necessarily have to be huge.”
or:
“Still, at this year’s US Sumo Open, there were competitors as light as 132 pounds. It’s great fun, easy to learn (see rules below), and there’s nothing quite like smashing into a nearly naked 500-pound man.”
Thanks RB for this interview … be careful Amanda, you’ll become a journalist ;)
ps: B-man, try the blue balls competition ;) :o)
Excellent! Does this guy look a little like Scott Adams to you? Just put a hold on this book at my local library… can’t wait!
nice interview! I enjoyed the technique - the set up interview - I mean - it was a real interview, but then again, he was filming himself, and of course cutting in the actual footage of the event. This could be a whole new way of doing Rocketdog.

I live for these feeds…also, the Star Wars parady is priceless. Keep up the good work.
Also, how do I get one of those “T”s?
DP: As I understand this is the same guy profiled in the Sunday Times magazine over the summerâ€â€and he did stand a chance, but the greater trophy was esteem. Many of the wrestlers (including the champion wrestler he trained under) respected him for trying and occasionally showing them a move or two.
Amanda, you are such a flirt (not a bad thing, a good thing). When Joshua watches this peice, he is going to think he has a chance. But I would put his chances up there with the Sumo competition. Joshua, give it a shot, as you know, you have nothing to lose. “So what are the chances”. “I’d say about 1 in a Million”. “Wow, so your saying there is a chance”
Cheers,
Wow, im surprised you got a hold of this guy…im sure he was hard to track down…
Did he like ever walk on the moon, cause, like nobody’s done that since errrr, yeah…well, nobody’s done that for a while, at least not in a sumo wrestling outfit.
That was… Interesting… Especially the one part where he got pwn*d in sumo wrestling.
TeraLink Was Here! ;-)
…Amanda, Drew, RocketBoom… awesome!
Thanks for all the cool stuff ‘guys’.
Interesting… VERY interesting.
He’s not affraid to participate, he’s living life to it’s fullest, people who sit around on their couches all day and post stupid blog comments are just a bunch of fat lazy loosers but this guy is actually a winner in the competition against himself, he should be congratulated for competing in the game of life.
This is a great episode!!!
Ah, Amanda! Sigh. Be still my heart!
Andrew, ’tis your evil auntie Joan who turned me on to Rocketboom (sits in the cubicle across from me); shame on her! You guys rock most excellently. This is where I’ll be getting all my news (and possibly not-news?) in the future. Loved the blue ball episode, the Where in the World is Amanda episode, The Drinking game episode, and the latest evil empire/star wars/Repugnican skit… Well, shucks. It’s ALL good. Keep up the good work! See ya’ online! :-)
WoW!! A whole episode without bashing the President.
I’m so proud of you guys, you’re growing up.
heh heh heh

Really, really wonderful interview. Josh is so relaxed and truthful, and generous with himself, and you, as usual, are wonderful. Great interview. Thanks.
I’m going to boil my face.
Thanks Amanda. That guy has balls. Little “tinker balls” but their bigger than some men twice his size.
A perfect example of not judging a book by it’s cover.
That’s what makes America great. Guys like that. Unafraid and willing to loose.
For a mans metal is not measured solely by his victories. It’s true test is the amount of times he tried and failed and tried again.

Enjoyed the interview, wished it was longer though - I would have liked a better understanding of WHY he did this… of course, that’s why there’s a book, right?
One constructive criticism…
I think a split-screen interview would play better so there isn’t the ping-pong back and forth between host and guest.
Maybe that’s technically hard to do?
Enjoyable all the same! Keep mixing it up!
I have to say this is one of the my favourite rocketboom episodes. Great editing, great camera angle on the interviewee and brilliant audio quality. The subject of the episode’s typically zany and the overlying movie clips are entertaining.
To top it all off - you’ve cured my insomnia! I’m about to drift to sleep at 4AM GMT! Gooooodnight…. Zzzzzzz…
I dont know what to say about this guys except that he should meet your Freegan friends…
