  3. Hi RB,
As a theatre technician I can guess that the light show is being run by portable dimmer pack controlled from a computerized light board with MIDI interface. Not difficult to get, but not cheap either.

    Still loving the show!!

  5. the lights were done by the person at
    http://www.komar.org/

famus for his halloween lgihts as well. There was a incedent I vaugly recalled, something like people at home could control his lights via a web ap. Later it was found out that this was faked. (maybe becouse of a /.ing incident)

  6. Rocketboom is a bright spot in each day. i follow the videoblog discussion list and know tempers run high because of the passion many of us feel about this stuff. No matter who gets angry and who makes the baby jesus cry, at the end of all the brou-ha-ha i can alway come back to the creative content being produced and feel happy. Thanks Drew and Mander!

  8. Hey guys, I’d love to take credit for that awesome christmas lights synchronized to music video, but it’s NOT me - see entry #21 in my christmas blog at http://www.komar.org/cgi-bin/christmas-blog

And YES, the Internet controllable holidays lights were a simulation from 2002 to 2004 - I outed myself to the Wall Street Journal when it got out of hand - read the full writeup at http://www.komar.org/xmas/hoax/

But it’s real this year with multiple webcams … although you are certainly justified in being skeptical! ;-)

  9. That light show gives new meaning to:

“Come on baby light my fire”

    On another musical note:

If you don’t know how to do it, I’ll show you how to VLOG THE DOG”

Old blues standard…(batteries not included, so no lights)

  13. i found your podcast on friday on sunday i got really interested in what rss meant i checked wikipedia and it said blah blah blah blah so sunday night i thought, you know i think i’d understand what rss is if someone said it outloud. my friends all think i’m a dork because i’m a 30yr old housewife who plays on the computer and they not only have no idea what rss is they don’t give a shit. so monday morning coffee and toast and your wednesday edition opened the door to hours of playing in the internet now that i almost completely understand what and rss feed is. thank you thank you thank you.

  14. not sure if Mizz M is tanner, or redder. friday with BlueBoy she was looking kinda white (or gray, depending on lighting), so over weekend things must have heated up. when do we get RB Weekend Edition?… PS In Amsterdam it’s raining.

I like this - It is entertaining. My housemate finds your voice sligtly annoying - but he doesn’t have to listern so screw him.

    I love the christmas lights.

  25. I wanted to get in touch when you made the czechoslovakia balls-up but held off and have just been rewarded by what is, absolutely no doubt in my mind, a truly excellent piece of start-stop, harryhausen-esque christmas light action. Your show’s description says you differ from normal news in certain ways - running this type of action is definitely one of them. Good stuff.

  26. get a clue guys. If you do some simple Googling, you can find numerous houses that do Christmas lights synched to music, using computer interfaces. And several are much better than this one.

I really liked one guy who took an Ipod FM transmitter, hacked it, and now can transmit 2-3 blocks in any direction, so that people can hear the music soundtrack to his lights.

  27. i’d like to know what is that so-called keyboard amanda is hitting? today she pushed a cassette into that thing, which made me think it’s an old Commodor or something.
