I hope we see more from this correspondant than we do from your other ones (well steve is pretty prolific, but i have only seen 1 each from like 3 of the contrubutors…interesting throat singers nonetheless
That was npr’ish. Very nice report. Could have been longer.
Man… what a trip down memory lane. I went on a romantic trip to the Eastern Townships last Valentine’s Day and when my boyfriend and I were lying in bed one night watching television we saw a couple of Inuits making that same kind of music… we impersonated the music when we were at his parents house a month later and completely FREAKED out the cat!!!
I liked that, it reminded me of a National Geographics reading from the Kalava; a near lost people remembered. I’m becoming hooked on Rocketboom; checking in daily now, love it keep it up.
The throat singers were disturbing–they couldn’t even keep a straight face for long!
I always look forward to my daily itunes download of Rocketboom. Keep up the good work Amanda!
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Amanda, we miss the glasses. You are still a goddess without them, but we really, really, really miss the glasses!!!
That was the worst show that I have ever watched on Rocketboom. Absolutely boring!
Hey guys, I haven’t forgotten about Rocketboom. Im trying. I hate sweeps. Drew, you ever going to use the footage I sent ya? I guess it’s very old now. But I was hoping you could use it somewhere.
Awesome. I still want to hear about that New York City Apartment Fireplace from last week’s comments episode.
But this was cool.
amanda…yeah i think your cool…but only when you relate things that are funny since u can never swipe the sarcastic twitch in your voice/personality…your tone does NOT go well with cool navtive american video segments. please spare the beautiful native peoples of this land trying to hold on to thier heritage a sarcastic insensitive attitude…they deserve better and so do you…your hot when you talk about art but you suck big time when you talk about things that matter…control yourself…

So what planet do you suppose baggyknee is from??????????????????????????
baggyknee? …a planet far, far away!
…good segment today.
Rocketboom is a habit.
It’s weird, but it’s cool.
Hi becoming an absolute adict of the show discovered it about three weeks ago and have logged in every weekday since (plus visited tons of archive stuff) - never know what to expect! Great work and keep it up, love the variety - throat singers, real left field but strangely interesting. Amanda hope the eyes heal quick and the world gets back into focus fully for you…well the good bits do anyway!
That’s pretty interesting…! I don’t understand the ppl that gave such negative feedback, though… :-(
TeraLink Was Here!
seriously…
Ok, Amanda, what’s with the human interest? And representing Native Americans in a good, humor-filled light? And come on, that lavalier is so not hot. Would you please just sit there wearing different pairs of glasses and never say anything, please. ;-)
Love Rocketboom, love seeing unusual stuff, even love seeing people express their ignorance by dogging you for not fitting into the mental cubby they built for you. They are the jesters in the kingdom of Rocketboom.
ps
I really enjoyed that Milt left the singers cracking up in the video. Too often other cultures are portrayed as being so serious and majestic, when we’re all just goofy bits of carbon bumping into each other on this here gassy rock in space.
Those sassy lasses should cut an albulm. :)
I’m with you Sandra, I caught no sarcastic tone whatsoever from Amanda. She did a fine job.
I thought it very culturally interesting, something I’d never see on CNBC.
Not to slight the ladies, but I was a little let down by what I heard after seeing the summary words “throat singing.” But I wouldn’t want to be criticizing people for not meeting my expectations around here, now would I? :) Stimmhorn (from the Nov 2 entry) actually comes closer to what I was expecting. Pretty sure the yodeler was performing some of that vocal voodoo.
The singer mentioned by Kent in the first comment is an American, Paul Pena. He died about a month ago.
Okey-Dokey then…. Yes I do watch PBS and find it fascinating, but then again this isn’t channel 7… oh well, there’s always tommorrow.
Hmm… a little weird… but ok… I guess…
Amanda… Would you please stop swinging your chair back and forth! It is SO irritating!
But absolutely no complaints, other than that! Keep Up the good work!
Actually,I kind of like the swinging chair thing.
Wow, irritated by a swinging chair? My oh my.
Loved this, I can imagine someone laying down beats to those strange sounds.
