  1. Hybrids may be the way to go. Encouraging them in the wrong way can have a downside, however. To cut down on polluition the Virginia Dept. of Transportation opened up High-Occupancy-Vehicle (carpool) lanes in the DC suburbs to driver-only hybrids. The hybrids don’t pick up carpooling riders at the slug (sort-of hitchhiker) lines. This adds more cars to the road, increasing traffic and polluting idling time.

A better fuel source than hybrids — hydrogen fuel cells — is 40-50 years away from being practical. Which should come first hydrogen cars or hydrogen infrastructure? Tough issues.

  8. the answer to the energy problem is at amanda’s beautiful foot: “watch carefully a amanda’s like foot, get inspired, when you are inspired you will breath more heavilly, then the consumption of oxigen and the production of CO2 will race, and it will acelerate the global warning, the glaciations and thunderstoms will change the weather, the stongest, amanda and I will be among them, will survive, for the few people left will be plenty of energy and the problem will be solved and begin again” That’s the way I see it.

  13. RE: No Greens, lighten up Frances. The internet is a big place and plenty of that space is conservative. Living in southern California, I don’t think individual transportation, whether Hummer or Hybrid is much of an answer. It doesn’t matter what you drive, if the roads a so crowded that you can’t move.

  17. If I had to vote today, the Hummer would win. If the pieces get progressively better throughout the week, I’m gonna need another box of kleenex (from laughing so hard I cry)!

  18. Good choice for a rerun. One of the best. However, hybrids are not yet efficient enough yet to justify the added cost. Fuel cells in 30 years? Hopefully. If you have 4 kids and need to haul stuff for work, you need a big vehicle. Choose wisely. –and If you are as dopey as the “character” in the bit, you have more problems than just your car.-From a not as young as he used to be republican.

  19. I have to admit, I’m waiting to see if the controversial “Hurrican Katrina survivor” episode makes the reruns. Heaven knows it split the audience down the middle when it was first shown. It would be interesting to see, as many suggested at the time, if a little distance makes it more palatable for some.

  20. Ya go and buy a hybrid ya damned liberals! Funny how the makers of hybrid know just how stupid liberals are…so stupid they will pay an extra $10,000.00 just to buy a hybrid…sounds like some smart republican knew his customers were going to be rich dumb liberals! So dumb, that they would pay an extra 10 Gs for a terrible car…America, land of the moron!
    Best Regards,
and yeah Amanda looked sweet in that white dress!
Take care, and go buy a hybrid!

  28. I agree body part comments are not fine what happens is that you have body parts that are body arts and a comment on that is mandatory and the body and its parts is where all begins

  29. I enjoyed the segment but was stunned at the insinuation that Republicans drive gas guzzlers and Democrats don’t.

Do you have any evidence to support that or are you making one those “oh so cute” liberal democrat assumptions that is always wrong?

    Just asking.

  32. I’m a young republican, too, and fuel efficiency is the number one factor when I consider a new car. I detest SUVs (especially hummers), and hope that we can start being more responsible with our resources and environment. Plus, point of interest, plenty of filthy rich democrats who drive ridiculously large vehicles, too.

  34. Very funny, Amanda. Another creative, clever, and thought-provoking installment. I appreciate the reruns.

However, I would like to issue a word of warning: People might like the skin, but you have to decide what you want to be known for.

I personally appreciate what comes out of your mouth more than what comes out of your shirt.
