i’m not sooooo opposed to the snide political humor (it gives my genetic conservative constitution a much needed morning respite) — although if an analyst you pretend to be, the humor should probably rise to a higher level. i recommend the 2006 Edition of Humorless Comdey for Dummies ….

must admit, tho, the nixon vignette did bring a muffled giggle … and seeing Cap’n P throwin’ down on Rocket Boom was awesomely inspired metaphorical bliss!!

  11. Other suggestions to judges in USA to stifle politically incorrect scientific discussions:
ban research on post abortion syndrome,
ban research on harmful effects of pornography,
ban all Christian psychologists who say that Freud was wrong.

  19. Hey Amanda:

Great to see your smiling face this morning on Canada AM! That was kind of exciting. http://www.ctv.ca/canadaam

Very good interview. And I see a few viewers have been here to check out the site. I wonder if Seamus O’Regan (your interviewer) is an RB fan? I think he might be.

I don’t think you mentioned your partner-in-crime Andrew. Will we ever see him step out from behind the lense?

    Cheers,
    Connie

on the ID vs evolution thing: it seems the og bible-text from genesis could as well be translated as: SINCE the beginning God (Allah, Jehovah, name it) createS the etc…, the story about the first 2nd day etc. is more metaphorical; considering that, evolutionists and ID-followers are more on the same level than they would admit..

  25. regarding Evolution vs ID(aka creatonism)

ain’t it funny how when science makes your car drive or your computer run it’s all good but when it proves evolution it’s suddenly part of the evil atheist agenda.

To all ID-fans here: If you’re really that much against evil atheist science, for the love of your god, stop using computers too. Bill gates(windows), Linus(linux) and Steve Jobs(apple) are all atheists so you better switch of that computer.

to amanda: keep up the good work !

  26. So I just saw a Miller Lite commercial on ESPN.

Thats normal. Except for the entire commercial was the christmas light show that appeared on entensity.net, Rocketboom, and everywhere else online. I thought it was remarkable when I saw it and apparently so did the big wigs at Miller. You should do a story on the guy who did the light show because he undoubtedly banked big time on this.

  28. The sound on Rocketboom needs some work. Sometimes when there’s music it is at too high a level and drowns out the speech. Other times, like today, the sound is horribly distorted. Check the peaks on today’s show and you will see that they are FLAT - your recording level is too high.

  30. You’re a pretty girl, Amanda, but your political ideas suck. Do you like communisim, oppression, and genocide? Perhaps you should move to Russia. Democracy is what allows you to express your fantasies of being oppressed, communist, and/or subject to genocide. You political ideas are self-defeating. Get a brain, girly.

  31. Hey Amanda and Drew,
You must be doing something right to get folks so riled up. Have you noticed, however, that when folks on the left disagree they tend(for the most part) to give itemized, well thought out reasons for their dissent, but when those on the right disagree they tend to(again for the most part)say things like ‘get a brain, girly’ or question your patriotism? I have witnessed this phenomenon in many forums besides RB, but it never ceases to amuse me. Archie Bunker was funny, too. :-)

    Love me my Rocketboom!!

  33. re Nixon:

You Rocketboom youngsters can be forgiven for your lack of historical perspective on Vietnam. I’m guessing neither of you were born till around 1980, ya?

Ol’ Tricky may have been a lying S.O.B., but he was certainly not lying in the clip with which you closed Thursday’s RB. The truth is we did humiliate ourselves in that conflict, by not fighting to win.

Here’s to US not making the same mistake 30 years later.

  35. I wish more people would read books (you lefties).

If I were a betting man, I would bet against the formation of life on any given planet.

In the gaseous stew that was the earths early atmosphere, To spontaneously make a simple protein like collagen you first need to make amino acids, and then you need to arrange 1,055 amino acids in the correct sequence.

The chances that a 1,055 sequence molecule will spontaneously self-assemble are nil.

If you would just have to assemble 200 amino acids in the correct order insted of the 1,055, the odds against all two hundred comming up in a prescribed sequence are 1 in 10 raised to the 260 power. That in itself is a larger number than all the atoms in the universe.

  37. Fritz –

You misunderstand my point. I was not trying to draw parallels between Vietnam and Iraq, as R’Boom attemps to do. Indeed, the two situations are as different as night and day.

As Christopher Hitchens wrote last year in Slate.com:

“A war fought with weapons of indiscriminate slaughter, and accompanied by racist rhetoric, with a conscript Army deployed against a highly evolved revolutionary movement is as different as could possibly be from a campaign of precision-guided munitions, with an all-volunteer Army, directed at the overthrow of a hideous and dangerous tyranny, and then taking the form of a drive for free elections and a constitution. If people say that it’s ‘reminiscent’ of Vietnam, it means they don’t remember Vietnam.”

How astute you are! Fancy a ‘girly’ thinking she could understand politics! Why, what was possibly going on in that pretty little head of hers?
By the way, what’s it like there, back in the 50s?
Has it ever occurred to you that you’re the one who needs to get a brain? Just so that you don’t expose any more of your ignorance… Russia is no longer a communist country and hasn’t been for quite a few years now. Maybe you should read the papers in between watching old John Wayne movies.
And if the US is quite as democratic as you claim, how come the teaching of darwinian theory is banned so widely for reasons of religious fundamentalism?
And erm, where are the Iraqi weapons of mass destruction? Under the oil barrels?
    Get a brain yourself, sonny!
PS Hmm, Amanda… Magna Cum Laude from Northwestern University and a degree from Kings College London.

  44. I think it was a stretch for that judge to declare Intelligent Design not a science. Science is observation, we observe a lot of things we can’t measure, like beauty. On the flip side, does this mean if we can’t measure something it doesn’t exist? There are tons of numbers in mathematics that we can’t measure but know their existence. There’s something fishy in saying something doesn’t exist because we can’t measure it.

How did that star system wind up near the blackhole anyway?
