I was hoping this would end up ind podcasts and videocasts.. finally meta links and chapters, you could also use them in the general news vlogs (instead of only on the website below the vlog). Great Drew.
I found three- the hidden story links are a cool idea. I’d hate to see RocketBoom’s work go undiscovered. You might want to put a Rocketboom Hot Link bug in a corner so people can find extra nuggests of Da ‘Boom! Also, iTunes doesn’t pick up on the story links, it just pauses the video. Thanks for the doing this piece.
Rocketboom
In my life I love you more…
Rocketboom
Keep on playing those mind games forever
I’m sure he loved blue balls.
Anyway, life is good. Enjoy … with peace, love and happyness.
It’s a tie between
Why don’t we do it in the road?
and
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.
“Crist you know it aint easy, you know how hard it can be, the way things are going, their going to crucify me.”
THAT was awesome. How did you get so many people to sing for you!! Amazing.
Damn… I can’t find these supposed “hidden story links”. I guess I’ll have to get my techie boyfriend to figure it out!
Great story.
Related to last casual friday … I’m now at approximately 1 week of firefox experience … just find another issue: yahoo photomail does not work under firefox, need IE. Idem for my favorite movies downloading website, need IE.
Still, I use most of the time the fox in fire.
That was so moving. It brought tears to my eyes when I think about John Lennon - getting killed. It was so very sad.
“All you need is love - love is all you need”
Milt
“As we celebrate and mourn what he stood for”?????????????
Who was mourning what he stood for?
Yeah…Rocketboom really sucks.
Whoever produces this thing should hire some writers who don’t feel that insipid animatron mindless, cliched palaver.
It’s really a shame that one of the first vlogs should be so utterly shitty in every respect.
It’s kinda sad that some people are so lame that they have to lash out at something as inoffensive, warm hearted, and truly creative as RB. I really feel sorry for you, BElCantoRBSucks, and may I gently remind you that you control your computer, and can easily stay away from sites you don’t like, rather than pissing on one so many of us do like.
Love yas, Drew and Amanda!!
Hey RB,
I was raised (and still live) in Manchester, less than 40 miles from where John was born and raised and it is impossible for me to visit Liverpool without thinking of him. I recently went to see an exhibition of psychedelic posters and art from the ‘1967 Summer of Love.’ (This included some photos and artworks of or about John.)
Who should be walking round it at the same time but a woman I thought I knew and in a way I kind of did. It was Cynthia Lennon.
When we got to the pics of John I thought ‘what is she thinking and feeling?’ but didn’t want to intrude on her space by asking. But I bet she was probably feeling even sadder than me.
I didn’t know him but when he was killed it was also the death of my youth. My world has never been quite the same since.
He wasn’t a saint you know, but, boy he touched our lives and made a difference and I just want to say ‘Thanks for everything John. I really, really miss you.’
nobody said my favorite line! the pedophile-esque:
“well she was just 17, if you know what i mean”
aaaahhh, now you’re talking!
BElCantoRBSucks:
Just go and see, in the archives link, Casual Friday of November 04, 2005 … find what best suits you and think about it.
But as Marius said, BElCantoRBSucks has the choice not to look at RB … comments of disagreement over one topic are normal (even expected … to much of ‘you rock’ or ‘keep up the good work’ are sometimes a little tiring .. uniformization is never good), but if you really hate the show, then leave …
that’s why I wonder if there is not more than what it seems behind BElCantoRBSucks … frustration not to be able to do as good as RB ? who knows … who cares …
A few comments:
I know a great cliff for that guy at the end of the clip. So, if anyone knows him send him my way.
To quote Dr. Evil “There’s nothing more pathetic than an aging hipster”
Do you think most of these people then went on to mourn the loss of the Cartoon Network after leaving the park?
Ramon the Viking, still defiantly taking the brown acid despite the warnings.
Drew and Amanda:
Thank you so much for sharing the people at Strawberry Fields with us! All we were hearing in the news was negative stories about not being allowed to hold the vigil past 1 am, but this was so much more positive. I’m a huge fan of NYC and I really appreciate your sharing your city with us, one that John Lennon held so dear.
“So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
The old and the young
A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear”
by John Lennon and Yoko Ono
from “Happy Christmas (War is Over)”
Beautiful job.
Thanks
“And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love
You make”
Hey Randman - I think it’s safe to assume Amanda meant to say somethin’ like this “we gather here to mourn him and celebrate what he stood for.” instead of “we gather here to celebrate and mourn what he stood for.” Da’Boom’s not overly polished and that’s what keeps me coming back.
Thanks Amanda and Drew! Here’s to all the people.
Working Class Hero
by John Lennon
As soon as you’re born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you’re clever and they despise a fool
Till you’re so fucking crazy you can’t follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
When they’ve tortured and scared you for twenty odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can’t really function you’re so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you’re so clever and class less and free
But you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
There’s room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
If you want to be a hero well just follow me
I’m fixing a hole
where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go (fade out)
Imagine’s a great song. It’d be nice if it became reality…
TeraLink Was Here! ;-)
Thanks Amanda. That was real. That was life captured.
6:00am the radio went on in the kitchen. Frank Hollard from WYSP in Phila reported the news. Lennon was dead. Then he played the Ballad of John & Yoko. I stood there still and listened as the words shot though me. All I could think of was… Damn, He was right.
“Christ you know it ain’t easy, you know how hard it can be
The way things are going, they’re going to crucify me”
-The Ballad of John & Yoko by John Lennon
Loved it! Could you become the next Jon Stewart????
i was glad to find this episode about john lennon on rocketboom… very interesting! it’s nice too see how many people still know him and love his music… so thank you and keep it up! :)
Thank you Bhob:
Amanda and Drew never wanted to answer my question … now I know: around 100,000 fans a day for RB :)
Read in NYT article (see Bhob):
“The financial opportunity here has occurred to others, too. TiVo, which can now be used to watch Web video on home television sets, just signed a deal to list Rocketboom in the TiVo directory - making it as easy to record as conventional television programs like “60 Minutes” and “Monday Night Football.” Giving up no creative control, Ms. Congdon and Mr. Baron will get 50 percent of the revenue from ads sold by TiVo to appear before and after their newscast, and their show will gain access to more than 300,000 TV sets connected to those new TiVo boxes.”
That’s an excellent way to make legitimate money, make RB survive and grow, without polluting us with paid advertising inside RB’s 3 min show (I said paid ads, not the funny ones we’ve seen until now :).
I was surprised to learn that it costs only $20 per show: it’s a message … everyone can do it.
You’re the best RB.
Amanda,
Oh, you sweet, sweet girl.
I saw the NY Times article, and clicked in for the first time.
I watched the John Lennon piece, and remember the awful day itself, then thousands of us in Seattle, gathered at the Center fountain.
We went because it was the right place to be.
We released a cloud of white balloons, crying and singing. I’m in tears again.
Thanks Amanda, keep it up.
Sam
Loved the Lennon tribute.
Are you aware that the seventh person in your interview, the white haired gentleman who answered your question by saying, “‘Imagine’ — without a question of a doubt” — is none other than Sid Bernstein, the music promoter responsible for booking the Beatles into Shea Stadium in 1965?
Betcha he has some stories to tell.
Congrats on the Sunday NY Times piece.
Best,
Barry Mitchell

Yoko looks good.
There is no spoon!
Great article, but I take issue with the phrase ‘mock news show’. Just because you guys don’t have a bunch of network fat cats telling you what to do doesn’t make you ‘mock’. The Daily Show, which I never miss, is a mock news show. Rocketboom is in a category all its own.
I’m chinese in Shanghai.
I love rocketboom!
