    Hmm… it has more to do with the the recognising, in the Gregorian calendar, of the dates starting at 1 C.E rather than 0 C.E.

    Well considering it’s the 10th year of this century, that kinda DOES mean that it’s a new decade. Unless you start your decades on the 1′s. I suppose that’d probably be right, since there was no ‘year 0′

    Only 20 sea lions were visible on the Pier 39 web cam just a few minutes ago. That’s down to 1% of the 2000 count.

    Sorry, we are still on the 00′s… The new decade starts next year: 2011 and ends on 2020.

    As KanonXD said and I bet many others did too: we never had the year 0.

    Tell you what, I’m not sure I really like this display of voracity by Rocketboom women at the end of the videos. Today Molly looked like a worthy ending for an episode on sealions.

    2009 = 09.. 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09.. 2010 = 10.. 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19.. lol, when the second to last number changes a new decade starts.

    In simple terms: the counting of years began with 1, not 0.

    0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. Makes 10 years.
    1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10. Makes 9 years. (In terms of years)

    If the first calendar year began as 0 then 2010 would be the new decade. But it didn’t. It began with 1, thus making 2011 the new decade as it is 10 years.

    Right you are. I don’t care so much about the decade. The ‘ten’s digit changes and so the name changes. What did bug me was the turn of the millennium. It did not begin in 2000, but 2001.

    hey, i heard about the sea lions, they moved as a warning. Because a couple days after they migrated up north from san fran sisco, there was 7.1 earth quake of the coast of california.
