Cool bro
…
Nice shirt!
It´s in South America too I think,
Wow I actually understood the French.
Keyboard Cat and Molly? This is among the best videos Rocketboom has to offer.
At least 2.7 million people die annually from malaria worldwide.
OMG YOUR T-SHIRT!
I like how the first guy doesn’t mind talking while there is a bug on the side of his head.
Grrrrr it’s not FRENCH its DUTCH.. please distinguish between the two.. French is a Romanic language and Dutch is a West Germanic language.. they’re completely different! Go back to school!
Die afrikanen spreken ook nederlands zeker, duh!
booooooring
Heavy reliance on just one pesticide tends to select mosquitos with the most resistance to the pesticide. You end up evolving pesticide resistant mosquitos. When that happens it is probably best to stop using the overused pesticide and switch ot another one which acts differently.
best. shirt. ever.
Time to bring back DDT.
is it weird that it always seem alil nipplely in Molly’s vids.
*i C black people*
This guy is awesome. So far I enjoyed all of his journalism. It’s awesome to have news that isn’t so North American centred. News here tends to be rather narcissistic, although I think Canada is somewhat blessed with broader reporting.
don’t lie..
OMG molly thats has to be the coolest shirt EVAR
im loving the shirt
wauw everybody talks about your shirt (very nicebtw)
but they didnt pay attention to the story…
so sad that all those kids had to die. ;(
R.I.P.
stuck between a rock and a hard place
The solution: don’t fucking use fucking insecticides.
A lot of very very serious problems with using DDT. But, on the other hand, a Toxicology professor once told me he thought that DDT, used against malarial mosquitos, had saved more human lives than any other chemical in history.
Hopefully there are better solutions now, or on the horizon.
Unfortunately you cant have order without the chaotic behavior in nature.
The land belongs to nature . Those li`l pesky bugs ain’t nuffin’ but a harbinger of things to come
Haha I was sitting and expecting keyboard cat to begin at any moment xD
Why?
1:09 Granny aint bothered.
The world really is backwards. There is technology and money that can help these and other suffering people, yet it all goes to war and consumerism. Greed makes these people suffer and die.
i want that shirt. i love keyboard cat. hey they have it hard poor guys
Some of the locals in this video were speaking French.
africa is screwed
its sad
It seems that if the mosquitoes are out of control, something in nature is out of sorts - like the water, the birds and bats and fish who eat the mosquitoes or the larvae - something. Much better to get that addressed than dump new poisons around, but I’m sure someone’s bottom line is getting in the way.
Is DDT the answer?
The resistance to insecticide is an endless struggle. The real thing would be a biotechnological breakthrough capable to make the mosquitoes harmless. For example, fish can be sterilized, why not insects? But to recombine the DNA is costly and malaria is a disease of the poor. In Africa they have even problems with the supply of drugs for the ordinary treatment.
does molly still have her own channel?
Not funny.
Le paludisme , appelé aussi malaria, est une parasite due à un protozoaire transmis par la piqûre de la femelle d’un moustique. 1,5 à 2,7 millions de décès par an, WIKIPÉDIA
thanks for this report, passing on to others now
ummm… use DDT?
Colombian Scientific Manuel Élquin Patarrollo invented a biological vaccine years and years ago (about 15 years perhaps?) and gave away his patent rights for the sake of cheap vaccination for those persons. But then U.S. pharmaceuticals avoided cheap vaccination for everyone by means of legal tricks and deceit… Sad but true.
Funny thing about your post, i was just about to write why not invent a vaccine since pharmaceutical companies are so into vaccines, it’s all we’ve heard for the past 8-10 months and now they are in Vaccine Heaven as the sheeple get their shots. But I didn’t post as I figured these people can’t afford to pay for such a vaccine, so why bother. Then I read your post, and you know what, I BELIEVE IT! Walt warned me to stay away from conspiracy theories but after this HINI fiasco, I believe. Like the californicator Mulder once said.
Not if they have developed resistance to DDT as well.
Nets is a good cheaper way that isn’t also poisonous to humans and other foodchain wild life
i want your shirt!!!!
It is French, not the voice-over, because that is Dutch, but what some of the locals are telling is French.
I think it is time for you to go back to school.
Awesome shirt.
It a sign. The pieces are falling into place only 3 more years! 2012
you are so right.
beacuse she is wearing a keyboard cat shirt, genius.
i’d love to see her Tits..
Nets are the best solution to solve this problem
id wonder how much molly gets paid
DEET conquers all
@NewbletGladez I heard She get’s 80,000, i am not sure, sounds too much for something that operates of youtube mostly and they aren’t even partnered
Yeah, when I used to go to Boy Scout camp the rule of thumb was to slather on the deet!
a year? wow
@NewbletGladez yeah a year, pretty good i guess, i am just a teen though, what would i know? haha
I was actually just joking around… Bu your logic is not entirely wrong, so kudos!
Yeah i know, but it would be really unfitting.
Nets are fine, but mosquitoes bite you in the daytime, outside the net, too.
Very sad. (first)
mice love insects, let us rule africa and we will solve the malaria problem
i’m sure if this were a European problem a solution would have been found decades ago, but since they’re only BLACK Africans, …well… the UN-human nations are taking care of things>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>where’s bill gates, bill clinton and bono?
I bet if those 3 opened their yaps simultaneously all the mosquitos would fly in and disappear for good. Problem solved.
whered u get the tee?!?!
Well what I THOUGHT was French, I understood the bits -.-
it’s a tough world out there
even here in Egypt where we have better infra structure and better resources but still the poor get sick >>> then die
and middle class “me” are soon to follow
MOLLY NEEDS A STYLIST, THAT SHIRT IS HIDEOUS.
As a keen supporter of space programs, whatever countries operate them, I’d like to see as much enthusiasm as this also in the fight against malaria on the Earth.

Right on Ook!
Nneka will be performing in NYC next week. I think Ella should head over there and try to get an interview with this amazing lady. She is quite charming and outspoken and represents a new generation of young Africans who know much more than we do about the subjects Rudd presents in his video segments. She’ll be performing here:
17.11.09
Highline Ballroom with The Roots
USA
New York
I mean if you can get Weird Al Yank My Dick, I think Nneka would be a real coup. Tell her b-man/kenetic music says “hi” if you do. (hint, hint!)
Read Nneka’s newsletter. Not about mosquitoes, but other problems in the Niger Delta.
http://www.myspace.com/79496565
Second that.
Ella would have a blast with a back stage interview.
Nneka is an interesting woman.
Here is some more background material.

Great find Ook, thanks for posting interview.
lol keyboard cat shirt
I WANT YOUR SHIRT >:O!!!
they were speaking french in burkina faso, but I don’t know what the narrator was speaking
@Tamfict23 Dutch
in my school we are doing a psa on malaria
cant the mosquitoes learn RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!
whats that picture behind you?
i thought in the 70’s they had tones of ideas on how to stop malira mosquitoes i guess none of them worked… like the one where they found if a large group of mosquitoes were placed in a small container they would produce a toxin to deal with crowding naturally, so they thought they would harness that. or they were going to pour soap into the breeding grounds… to poison them.
keyboard cat!!1
@PuppetXeno issues much? to someone who dosent speak your language it has no meaning… all we hear are hard h sounds looping o or l sounds or q sounds wrapped together, which i can imagine is the kind of sounds you would hear if you didn’t understand english.
i didn’t know mosquito nets were treated.
He is speaking Dutch (Netherlands)
oh dear god your kidding?! that sucks ass… everyone has to suffer and feel like assholes cause the government screwed you over again
not enough molly
best channel on youtube.
period.
I feel like I,m OD’n I used to have to wait forever to see Molly now nearly every day. Heaven!
@Leonardo
Malaria is not only confined to the poor. From the Economic Burden of Malaria you can see that it also affects fairly well to do nations.
“Certain countries with high incomes still face serious malaria problems because of their geographical location. Oman, with an income per capita of almost $10,000, has severe malaria throughout the country except in remote areas of high altitude and desert. United Arab Emirates, next door with one of the highest income levels in the world, has also been unable to eliminate malaria.”
To all:
Here are some resources for those that want to learn more about Malaria instead of a T-Shirt:

Yes, you mention rich countries. But by the wikies I observe that Oman and United Arab Emirates have a small population (2,577 + 4,800). Less than the urban area of Cairo (8 millions). So the question is if, beyond their considerable national or per capita income, they are also a market interesting enough to guarantee a return on the huge investment necessary to develop a biotechnological remedy to mosquitoes. Big Pharma doesn’t patent anything without a more than convincing financial plan, and the money by the governments isn’t a great deal.
Set aside the basic research ad hoc, a transgenic sheep whose milk is used for the extraction of hormones for the Hepatitis B — just to make an example — can be $500.000 worth.
Of course the right strategies (conventional or biotechnological) have to be designed by the specialists who are already on the problem.
Come on Leonardo, we all know that to solve any of these problems all we have to do is construct a fancy looking website, then poof, just like in The Magic Kingdom, everything resolves itself.

Right Walt?
Walt: Mickey leave me alone, I’m dead..zzzzzzzzzzzzz…….I mean it this time….zzzzz.
net suit
how are they all speaking french?
wow. thats so sad. those poor people
I can see your nipples through your shirt
So can i :D
IN the 1970’s DDT the most successful mosquito insecticide was banned based on flawed research and false scientific studies conducted by groups with a particular political agenda. So now millions of people die every year from mosquito borne illness.
People take so many things for granted…
for example : Health.
or food…
you have to be thankful D: !
thanks rocketboom for showing these clips
rather have some electricity going through the bed net to kill the mosquitos
I know there are limited resources for that area, but it would be nice to see the natives of that area educated on insecticide rotation. You can usually keep insects non-resistant to insecticides if you can use them on a rotating cycle. 1-2 years of one insecticide, 1-2 years of another, then swaping back and forth. It helps keep insects from passing on resiliancies to specific insecticides. We use this principle in the turf industry with great success.
Molly is so damn cute, I just want to hug her!
@skwishypikl some africa region where conquered by the french during the great navigation period.
For some reason, all I was thinking about during this video was a cat playing a keyboard. >_>
Nneka ( Live )envoyé par fan38tunde. - Regardez plus de clips, en HD !
Well that was a nice weekend roundup of Nneka.
To my untrained ear, she is a thoughtful, hot and genuine singer/songwriter with sophisticated “Afropop”/world beat sound that she brings to hip hop, reggae and a little sole.
Despite my current lack of a music budget, I plan on making my first online music purchase. (I generally patronize the surviving used CD stores.)
I am thinking the “No Longer at Ease” album.
Last FM is confusing me. Is an Amazon MP3 somehow different and why does “7digital” have only 5 tracks and is there somewhere else I’d rather patronize? I’m note buying from iTunes.
Guess I’ve got homework.
previous french colony
well this is not good
Not true. DDT was bad stuff. It poisoned the birds, fish and other animals that were eating the mosquitoes.
Keyboard Cat T-shirt is made of epic win.
I know in florida they simply flood the areas where mosquitoes like to breed, and advise not to leave standing water anywhere, but that won’t work in africa, I’m thinking.
A simple, cheap solution to killing mosquitoes needs to be researched. He’s hoping it can be found.
It is true. What is NOT True is the lies about downstream DDT poisoning of other animals. That was based on false evidence that was later proven to be a lie but by then the political damage had been done. You don’t think people will lie about such stuff to support their political agenda? It happens all the time. Same thing happened with the Ozone scare and Global Warming. All based on limited and falsified evidence for a political cause.
Stop watching FOX news. The ozone layer is getting better because of controls put in place on industrial chemical use. Global warming is still getting worse. We need vigilance to keep these things from getting out of hand.
this is only partially true. DDTs are harmful to humans though the toxicity of it was exaggerated. The real harm comes from chornic exposure to the chemical which is carcinogenic and may cause a number of reproductive problems and to wildlife particularly felines and birds (both rodent predators, another common disease vector).
The short story is basically that DDTs are good at killing insects and if used sparingly and judiciously can be a boon but are dangerous in the long term.
The south east in the United States has the same trouble; and because they are hesitant to admit it, probably deal with it even less effectively.
oh me oh my why did jaco have to die?
This made me cry because one of the kids that I’m building a school for (they’re preschoolers) in africa died of malaria last year
Nice shirt, Molly.
Cool it’s in dutch XD
Apart from this great work… nice shirt =)
I have a device that uses no chemicals just water and the thermal power of the sun. I think it will be a great weapon in the fight against malaria. Please tell me how to contact theses people.
Regards, Roy.
i saw a documentary on chlorine dioxide. it is suppose to cure malaria and cancer.
keyboard cat!!!!!
I think mosquito control is such a huge issue in these countries, we need to encourage large pharma to make real drugs available for generic production and make governments pay premiums to make cover the cost for pharma.
