@unorthodoxJ If you like being an artist, go and buy some ad space and stick whatever you want on it. But if you’re doing this kind of vandal activity using public appliances thinking it’s “art” or “cool” you’re making someone else clean up the shit for you or pay for the cleaning.

@techfoxpl It does a service to the community by shaking those who read it from their complacency and, as you heard in the video, making people smile.

Having it set up in a specific ad space would rob it of those things. It is art, but it doesn’t do as much effect unless people think its serious.

I see no reason why they should be taken down unless you honestly want more signs to go up in its place.

@techfoxpl you do realize that there is so much litter in dublin that this is just nothing special even if you class it as litter and there is some god-awful and uninspired graffiti ‘littering’ the streets, especially down by the central bank and the small back streets near the liffey. this stuff is actually quite good and i bet i put a smile on more than one persons face/

@techfoxpl because you know stickers are such vandalism. try spray paint. you dont need a solvent in a power washer to remove stickers. seriously, lighten up. this guy is just trying to brighten someones day.

@unorthodoxJ I already told you: private property and public property is not your property unless you hire it. If you’re engaging in this kind of activity using someone else’s property without their permission you’re a pure vandal. Try sticking your art on my or my neighbour’s house or on my town hall’s building and I promise I’ll teach you some art.

How would you like it to have one of these stuck into your house or car? You realize if it rains on the stickers, these WILL require a solvent to remove?

@grimmangel25 On the contrary. Seeing people like this guy makes me thinking about other people’s problems: the cleaning guy that has to remove this garbage off the street, and the taxpayer’s money that has to be spent on the cleaning guy.

Concerning the issue of pollution, I suppose you need to weigh the degradation of the environment with the benefits to humanity that the art provides. There’s no question that this is pollution and illegal, but the legal answer isn’t always the RIGHT answer. I feel that things should be illegal because they are wrong/bad, not wrong/bad because they are illegal.

When art is involved, it’s up to the individual whether the benefit outweighs the cost, but you still may be arrested and fined.

What a fun idea! I’ll admit I’m not huge on modern or conceptual art ideas, but I think this is just fantastic. Why? Because anything that can put a smile on someone’s face is something amazing. I love the cute, humorous innocence of the work. It’s nothing very controversial, vulgar or spiteful like I see with a lot of modern day artwork. It’s just a bit of fun, and the world could always do with more laughs!

@sarsattacks well if the solvent is water yes. ever heard of a damp sponge and a little rubbing? usually counteracts the glue. have you never removed a sticker from a car or a building before? honestly its very easy, and pollution isnt an issue with stickers…. paper decomposes when wet. imo a lot better than using aerosol spray paint cans…..

    @demosthenets

First of all, I worked in a lab and we need to use solvent to remove adhesive off stickers when testing clarity of glassware of products, even when the stickers were dry.

Also, you really think somebody would remove all those stickers for free? You know where the cities get money to pay for the cleanup? the taxpayers. Do you want somebody to vandalize your schools and libraries with their “art” that nobody really cares about except for the artist and internet bloggers?

@NiceQuietkid A nice-looking environment is one of the things afforded by tax dollars. One percent of all public works go to art. This is debatable whether or not it’s art, but it’s definitely costing tax dollars to get removed.

I think it’s a good idea to have these things around, they’re quite amusing and people would benefit from the humour they give - might cheer them up slighty after a tough day. But on the other hand, if everyone went around doing this kind of thing then the world would quickly be littered with junk that just boosts someones own prestige or to perhaps gain a career out of it. Maybe art should be kept at…hmm…i dunno…an art exhibition?

Do you know what a bigot is? A bigot is somebody who forces his own values onto others. My argument is to RESPECT people’s properties and keep your art to yourself. Forcing your interpretation of art in others’ private property could be considered bigotry. How many people do you think have agreed to let this guy vandalize their property?

of course it makes you smile, you don’t know the guys who have to remove the stickers! What if that was your grandmother who has to remove those stickers out of her streets?

@sarsattacks - I agree with your overall sentiment, but this guy doesn’t seem to be putting his stickers on peoples windows, or front doors, or cars. These are spaces that usually would be taken over by commercial advertising. Maybe it’s slightly anarchistic, but I’m down for reclaiming a little of the public space for art.

@techfoxpl the cleaning guy doesnt HAVE to remove them. they dont have people that sweep the streets. They have STREET CLEANERS! The giant cars? And alot of people like the sighns and dont CARE! A sticker wont make a difference!

The best kinds of art transgress any current boundaries, and force us to reevaluate them. Think surrealism in the early 20th century. Street art, whether this kind, or graffitti, is pushing the boundary of ‘where’ we think art can be. Art doesn’t have to hang in a gallery, it can be stuck on a lamppost, or sprayed on a wall.

Your argument to “RESPECT people’s property and keep your art to yourself” Is nothing if not illogical. Art is expression! Most of this artist’s postings were on pubic property (except for a trash bin) dust bin if you are from England)) and as such he as not violated private property rights. In a time when our ability to express ourselves publicly is more and more constrained, I personally find this young mans expressions much more than healthy. You need to be thankful the common man is not (Presently…) out ripping up the very pavement and chucking it at the precious real estate on Wall St. The sanctimonious concept of private property (Murder all the native americans and set up shop to do our wholesale slave state bidding!) is beyond absurd. We do not own this planet in this solar system, in this galaxy, in this universe. It is our home, and all the oil, timber, platinum, water, fish, lobsters etc. have been bestowed upon us as a very gracious and bountiful gift. While you are busy wrapping tape around the mouths of those who would speak their creative will, those creatives among us will be spitting through it to make our mark!
