nice video
nice cell! :)
Pretty cool!
wow this is actually amazing it can save people more money :D and for the “stupid” people who break or lose there chargers.
YAY im so happy for them
This… is great! :D
great idea 5 stars!!!
kenya economics rising!
for situations like this, they should make a charger that will charge on kinetic energy. maybe even on biomass but that’s too much for a phone.
“…and ‘prey’ for power.”
lol
in northern Ireland, id need to leave this phone outside for a year to make a cal with it lol
That would be a good phone to have if you get lost or stranded.
Yes, hunt for it with your spear poles ;3
boring
Wind power, it would have a windmill attachment.
Japan just got beasted on.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…. MOLLY, snort…. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…. enough of all these fillers and that ugly red hair chick.
mollys the shittiest show on rocketboom. shes so fuckin bored in her videos. -__-
best cellphone feature for shit country like this one
“Prey for power”
lol that made my day.
Anyways, interesting video.
If you’re a boob-craving no brainer like underdogz then you’re more than welcome to GTFO. These videos are educative. Education. You know, something you don’t have? Yeah, watch the video and shut up, underdogz.
Yea, seriously. Where can I buy one of these? Sign me up!
This is only a normal cellphone with a solar panel with it…. if i had the tools i would adapt my cellphone like this…
Very inspireing!
educational?
lol
If only you knew how to spell inspiring…
True, but actually it was a copy’n'paste mistake, Harry.
wait a minute, why don’t they buy a recharge kit that is powered by turning a crank? I own a small kit that recharges my cellphone/ipod/any small electronic device that fits with the adapters included. not expensive and would help on those rainy days.
cool, this phone can come in very handy for most of the equator bound delevoping countries!
Only a joke. =)
Well, things change i guess :)
Solar phones in an extremely hot country. Genius.
its true.
That was informative and interesting, and I enjoyed it..
…Nothing witty to say about that, really.

For developing economy countries such as Kenya, which have huge surface, a lot of wilderness, small road and railway network, and small electricity grid the combination of satellite communications, solar power supply and wireless technology can be a wonderful developmental resource. And it’s an infrastructure that can be implemented with costs comparatively low, whithin the investement capacity of Kenya. Satellite access of course can be hired. The whole of it could allow Kenya to jumpstart beyond a lot of logistical problems that troubled European and North American industrialization.
Good stuff, Ruud, though I suspect that if you have a problem to get a full and ready solar recharge in an equatorial country like Kenya those chinese phones have still a long way to go, and the interviewees who bought them feigned with you more satisfaction than they really felt. By following and filming them secretly you could make an award winning video on Swahili swear words.
I think they should put Mickey Ears on each cell phone. They’re self-charging.
Naaah, quite unpractical. You ought to stay put and turn your head around on a 180 degrees arc in 12 hours in that engineers call the sunflower emulation. Also you have to line your ears with a foil and get the connecting plug of the recharging cable into one your bodily holes. Guess which?
You are underestimating the Power of Mickey Ears! Walt was more in love with my ears than with womens’ breasts. Or the place of which you speak.
lolz at the end “prey for power” it makes me think of a tiger hunting the energizer bunny
That does make sense. Could also be useful to campers staying out in the wilderness who need to make an emergency call
6h to recharge?
“Honey, I’mma call you back in 6 hours, ok?”.
that’s so neat, i would totally get one if i were a nature’s outdoors kind of person. only problem i wonder about is how resistant the solar cell is, if you drop your phone once i hope it wouldn’t damage it permanently.
no mention of how long the battery charge lasts?
6 hrs to fully charge? im sure you could make a short call within minutes
45 $ must be more than one average monthly salary in Kenia… thats a lot for a phone…
there are alot better phones for outdoor ppl but cost a shitload more lol
its mainly an economical and for places with low tech.
im shore it wouldn’t have the best range
and the chineese probs make it for fuck all in manufactoring fees
I don’t like all the negative comments this video got. I think the solar cell is a very innovative idea, in fact I can’t believe we haven’t seen this feature sooner.
This is the number one feature II want this feature for my iPhone!
where is molly ?
this will not work in uk. there is no sun in uk
I like the mistranslation of “prey for power.”
… it should be “prey ON power.”
Hunt for that tasty, tasty power.
There are so many solar powered invations that these people could use.The government should really focus on making stuff like this available and affordable for them considering how little work they are putting into their power grid by the looks of it.
777Stitches777: hahaha, “prey”.
Apparently in Kenya
lol, I saw the Prey thing right away as well - awesome.
COME SEE THE LIONS, RIGHT HERE IN KENYA. COME SEE THE LIONS HERE IN KENYAAAAAAAAAAAA. A KENYAAAAAA KENYA KENYA A KENYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
Okay, but seriously. Sick phones. :D Can they text?
This is a really good idea and I have no idea why they haven’t ‘invented’ this a few years back.
Prey for power? Spelling fail.
Also pray to what? God doesn’t exist.
that would work here in egypt
but we r all about fancy phones
u music won’t run long on the solar battery
LOL
God *probably* doesn’t exist
I think “probably” suggests that there is still a 50% chance.
It’s a manner of speaking. It doesn’t mean literaly *pray*, it means to hope for something. Basic human emotion, hope, not related to religion. Do you follow?
I know. I’m not an idiot. I was using the ’saying’ so that I could make a point that i’m an Atheist.
Gotta love freedom of speech.
Okay, like I understand and respect that, but do you really need to? I mean, it’s great your an atheist, so am I, but there are so many better places to argue the non-exisentance of god than a solar powered cell video. I’m not saying you did anything wrong, but you could do so much better….
selling 10 xD a day woop there totally selling like hot ckakes
a opposed to 1 a day or something
“prey for power” fail
if you think for a moment about the situation these people are in thats quite remarkable really.
Wonder how much per month they pay for their plans
I guess they prey on the batteries while they sleep. Don’t sneak up on them, they might suddenly discharge.
I will prey for them
I bet they prey for a lot of sun to recharge them.
This is a must for rural dwellers. 5 star video
Even with that freedom people still oppose hat you are saying by giving you a thumbs down. :/
Also I lol’d at the spelling mistake at the end of the video, but what do you expect, the editor for these videos is Dutch with English as a second language, can’t really blame him.
hm. good for kenya!
I only caught the one spelling error. Very good idea. Of course now we see the down side to solar. It can’t be sunny every day =D
I don’t care, most of the people who did it are probably religious.
I was mearly pointing it out
6 hours is way to long
or maybe PRAY for power.
it’s fucking africa. the sun is out for 18 hours out of the day
If necessity is the mother of invention, then most likely some of the next greatest inventions will be in Africa.
Guess Apple has another feature to add on the 4th generation iPhone. haha
they translated it wrong the guy says HOPE for power but it got translated to PREY for power
That’s such a great idea. If they’re from china, does china have them too?
Well they would mean about the same thing in that context.
Most people are on prepay/pay as you go plans. The charges are dirt cheap, less than a cent for a text message and 1-2c a minute for calls. but most people ring and hang up (called ‘beeping’) to let someone know they want to contact them, and that is for free.
Apple made a computer years ago that could be wound up, never took off. Also, you can buy small solar cells that plus via USB into phones such as the iPhone to recharge them.
I think it was a misspelling of pray…
that would actually be really cool.
