Omgosh, I want more of these! I could’ve really really used this about a month ago when I had my Romanticism Exam. (I’ll have to redo that exam, so keep them coming ;) )

@jordanthewizard I know a 24 year old who gets mistaken for 13 or 14. It’s just because she’s short and looks very young. SO yeah, they could have just thought she was very short… plus people were shorter in the past.

@3rkid2 - actually people were shorter 200 years ago, but not because we’ve evolved since then or anything like that, but because people are much better nourished in this day and age (in developed countries at least).

There is only one problem. This year (2010) the “Poe Toaster” did NOT show up to either the original grave or the newer grave of Edgar Allan Poe.
Wow that was truly tragic, he must have been so passionate. He is one of my favorite poets, his poems are so enlightening but dark at the same time. I think that he is so cool for writing that one about the Black bird. Did he ever write about any thing happy? Probably only in certain stanza’s not that I am an expert. Like Steven King, but in dark poetry form.

It’s really something how tragedy can bring about so much creativity and raw emotion. And well, emotion is what binds us all. Fantastic author.
This is why drugs for depression and other emotional “problems” people have should be tossed. Depression and anxiety spawns creativity and uniqueness. People think they need drugs to cure their emotional issues, when they really should be doing something creative. If you look into history, you’ll see that the most craziest of people have left the most deepest impressions. They are the ones who are remembered. Well, then again, some of these crazy people ended up being bad apples lol!!
@ArmindaHeart Evidentally you’re one who has never dealt with depression or anxiety. I am agoraphobic and thus deal with a high amount of anxiety. Anxiety that at some points has caused moderate depression. Does that make me some prodigy? Nope. By no means am I saying that the drugs I take are nessicary. I take Apo-clonazepam as needed to prevent myself from having panic attacks, I have learned to do that without drugs now. But every once in a while it is too much to prevent without. — Continue
@ArmindaHeart The drug I take is not nessicary in order for me to live or to continue living. I can get along without it, however it allows much more comfort when dealing with my high anxiety. I have had to put my college education on hold while dealing with my condition and so I disagree with the statement that having these issues makes you creative, or that they will assist in making an impact. I will likely die with no more than a handful of people knowing who I am.

I think it is a shame that the tradition was broken this year but from what i could gather, the original “Poe Toaster” had passed away and handed the tradition down to his children.
Of course, i believe this to be more speculation than anything because of the mysterious nature of the “toaster” nobody can be really sure excpet the “toaster” himself.

He didn’t “take on” the name Allan - it was given to him, but not legally. He seldomly used it as an adult. Rosalie Poe was never deemed “legally insane” - never heard that one before. He never, ever, struggled with drug addiction. Never. Where do people keep getting this? His suicide attempt in 1848 is controversial and probably not true. The “most poetical topic in the world” was chosen by Poe not for personal reasons, but because he believed that was the topic most likely to elicit a deep, sincere emotional response from his readers. Why facepalm (around 3:38)? We still indulge in tragic fantasy the same way today. He disappeared after drinking at a party in September 1849?? What? He was perfectly sober up to his death; like most alcoholics, he sought and found help for his drinking problem. Really not unusual.
I like what you did here, but some research to confirm some assumptions would have helped. You quoted some of my own research almost word-for-word (and used the Poe family tree graphic I created) but some “facts” appeared out of nowhere, particularly the drugs and Rosalie’s insanity.
