This was either supposed to be sublimely humorous or else it was a demonstration of one individual’s manic side of manic/depressive disorder. In either case, it failed significantly. I might go so far as to suggest removing it from Rocketboom’s offering post haste.

He’s got a point.. A lot of the stuff we use today has potential to be abused by somebody.. Pretty much everybody has a cell phone, which makes it veeeery easy for somebody to see where you are, or just listen to what you say. And yet nobody does (at least where I live).. The benefits of having a cell phone are much bigger than the risks and the same goes for the internet, computers or the tagged-in-the-future shoes. “The government watches me” is just paranoia.
I hope he was trying to be funny. This was a bit silly. First of all, it’s not free if you have to buy the shoe with a higher price. Nothing is free.

My old shoes goto the less fortunate via: left in an alley in the Poorer section of the city. I’m sure some homeless misfortune will make use of them.
Wealthy people, such as Joe Perry and Steve Tyler of Aerosmith, have important things to occupy their time and the thoughts they bring to mind. On the other hand a person looking for a job in these difficult times would never entertain these four minutes of thought. Then there are the people who are not exactly wealthy but they’re not exactly skimping on the lobster tails and the Starbucks to lift their spirits and wile away the moments, and with so much free time on their hands their thoughts devolve into whatever happens to their whim and fancy.

Richard Stallman does not own a cell phone because it’s a tracking device. When he needs one for a call he borrows it from a friend. That way the NSA is unleashed after his friend. That’s smart.
Anyway, as to spime, whatever its practical viability may be, those who have no concern to be tracked by the government are generally those who won’t ever be any concern to the government. You have to have ideas for that.
You liberals should pay a bit of attention that the most appalling ever US survellaince program on citizens via wiretapping is due to a 2008 legislation by a majority vote of the Dems, and that Obama is currently stonewalling the attempts by the ACLU to bring in a little of accountability for the officials who order the wiretaps. Bush’s Patriot Act is a child game in comparison.

God, the interviewer is terrible. If he was supposed to be funny, he half-failed. If he was supposed to be a semi-serious, genuinely interested and engaging interviewer, he failed on that count too. The feeling I got from beginning to end was a sticky awkwardness, like when you meet an overdoting relative, having never known the person. Bruce Sterling <3, Interviewer, get some better lighting or something.

If he’s talking about giving individual components IP address’ (e.g. For wine you’d need - corks, labels, bottles, grapes, transports etc.) then this idea has been about since 1999.
