talk about brain damage.
http://flatounet.net/urlserveur/sound/ambience/fart8.wav
First! =D
gay
Why didn’t they paint that truck black&white? Would fit the name a lot better!
Anyhow, nice little piece of information presented to us once again by Rocketboom!
Lol - AT&T is so bad they need temp sites?
Pretty cool idea. I can see how it could become invalueable in emergencies.
I like how he says 5000% to make it seem like more, when it is just 51 times larger. Still big, but not as impressive sounding.
!=first
lol i cant believe ATT is allowing this to go public verizon is just going to say “well we dont need towers on wagons to have a large network” why are they just feeding them like this hahah?
this was really informative, i never knew of a mobile cell tower.. cow…
Interesting vid.
Wish it was higher quality?
Impressive. If only they went this far for their customers all the time. I mean, what’s the point of having a cell phone if you never get signal? Thanks, AT&T. You’re a real find.
16th!
To be fair, the reason why the rolled in these trucks is because they knew there would be 14k geeks with data phones all trying to twitter inside a four block radius, something that only happens once a year.
That’s just what the bottlenecks needed.
(Networks following users? Cool.)
I loved the ad in the beginning. Good ol’ Siemens helping Hutchinson, Kansas.
well i work in telecoms - so this is not all that interesting to watch..
Ellie Ellie Ellie
You stood me still….
Increase the mobile signal strength at home!.. HAVE CANCER!..
and if you are against this type of devices.. fear not.. because your neighbor will have it for you..
out of THIS COW … O_O
hack em!
I’d hijack one of them cows and wire them to my wifi antenna on my laptop and do me some serious wireless internet hacking lol
I smell bullshit
mobile cell tower? cool! i want one too^^
thanks Rocketboom :)
Carmelo’s catering gets the great FREE plug!
Great idea, but somebody will of course call it conspiracy sooner or later :D
moo
Impressive, it kinda reminds me of those phase prisms from StarCraft II
Theres a this 1 room in the basement of 1 of the buildings at my uni which always gets no signal =(
lol
Sellout, sponsored by at&t
Thanks Ellie, that was really informative and uh ummm ah.. oh screw it - ZOMG Ellie you are so beautiful!!!11one
And when it goes under a bridge, BAM!
I saw no ad. I’ve actually not seen an ad on You-tube for a few months. Not sure what I’ve done to stop them.
I DO have to press play for every ROCKETBOOM episode I watch. It’s automatic for all the other videos I watch. Just here I am required to press play.
As for the story. This is cost management and capacity flux being put under control. It’s very cheap to rent a spot in a parking lot for a truck Vs spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to lease a cell site and build on it.
okay, i switched off, what was this about?
It wasn’t about some moron 4chan thing. Rocketboom has always been more than memes and tits.
that is cool
@demetry13 Nope! Just reporting on a story :)
@katsujinken10 haha, thank you!
maybe it’s Ellie’s hotness. maybe it’s the pint of whiskey i had for breakfast. but i want to have dirty sex with AT&T now.
anyone else getting a sprint ad… right next to this video??
if all sponsored videos would be that good i wouldn’t mind them…
@demetry13
True. But at least it was educational.
wow awesome! new info for me!
So youtube in the USA is full of ads and shit?
Thank god, I live in Switzerland, no ads =D
@yetidetective Hahahahaha. I love you.
Nope IE8 :)
@robseraiva Most definitely.
Hey Ellie the only reason that troll let you in the “cow” was because he thought it would make him bigger than you and you thought it was for “fun time” unless your into troll sex….
I wondered why my balls tingle so much and now it is because of “DAS” thanx
I can actually see there tumors growing.
AT&T sponsors Rocketboom and yet Rocketboom promotes 4chan, a notorious website to which AT&T tried blocking access. It’s a damn trainwreck in slow motion!
You got a nice sponsorship and we got some nice info here. So cheers!
Do remember people. If Ellie is out of RocketBoom in about a year or less, it is because of her brain cancer sponsored by AT&T !!
What were they thinking calling it a cow. That is ridiculous.
Ok, Ellie, when a video is so brazenly designed as a commercial for a major brand (was it At&t?) 3:57 is kinda sorta the right lenght we can endure to admire your beauty and not get pissed at the unsolicited advertising. Keep them that short. So nice to see you.
what about the brain damage from all the wireless crap?
http://flatounet.net/urlserveur/sound/ambience/fart8.wav
Never heard of brain damage, I only heard of brain tumors. And just in case your observation is just about cancer this comes from one of my favourites sites when it comes to data checking homework:
http://www.skepdic.com/skeptimedia/skeptimedia66.html
Cellphones, brain cancer, and other cheery thoughts
9 Jan 2010. As you may have heard, the state of Maine is considering “legislation requiring cellphone makers to affix labels on their devices warning consumers of possible brain cancer risks due to electromagnetic radiation.”*
Below are some facts and well-supported opinions relevant to the issue of cellphones causing brain cancer:
logic and methodology
Correlation is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for causality. Without correlation, there is no causation. Correlation does not establish causation, however.
No scientific study on this issue is or can be a randomized control study on humans because of the ethical issues. Besides, if there is an effect, it might take 20 or 30 years to manifest, not to mention how hard it would be to find an adequate control group and keep watch on them. Studies on animals, such as rats, exposed to various amounts
et cetera…
To make a long story short there isn’t a miserable scrap of evidence of a causation between cell phones and brain cancer.
And however I prefer commentaries about Mrs Roundtre than about cancer.
and the addiction!!!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1258703/Internet-rehab-clinic-screenager-children-hooked-modern-technology.html
never mentioned cancer, YOU DID! ever hear of acoustic neuromas? they can damage your hearing and brain real bad. Guess you aren’t as up-to-date as you think Mr. Leonardo. BTW, is RB paying you to deflect certain commenters?
BTW, is RB paying you to deflect certain commenters?
What an ass of yourself you are making b-man. Look above and see who appended his comment to the others starting the talk.
Get lost you idiot.
Sorta seems like an ad, but as others have said it doesn’t look good for AT$T’s network. Possibly related, I had to stop following Andrew because he kept tweeting about how much money he makes from Apple stock.
Well, I checked right now Apple Inc. on the Nasdaq and it doesn’t seem to me that brickly.
http://www.google.com/finance?q=NASDAQ:AAPL
Unless he has some self-styled whizzy derivative (probably a Ponzi Scheme) I suggest Andrew keep investing on his real trade, that is RocketBoom ladies.
I think It’s a great idea for them to bring in these “mobile” cell towers for big events.
What a good idea. Kudos to whomever came up with it.
Now if you could park a few thousand of these trucks throughout the country your users might not be bitching so much about your lousy coverage, AT&T
Ahhh, I see, so this is how AT&T wants to fix their terrible coverage
COW :)
It always looks like she wants to give the person a hug at the end of her interviews lol
@ImmortalDestructor
They blocked access because 4chan was being DDOSed and it was damaging AT&T. It had nothing to do with the content.
Cool segment… good job Ellie.
Yeah it’s gotta be a pain driving that thing around.
Dear Ellie RocketBoobs,
A segment about YOUR inner workings would be much more interesting….however, AT&T probably wouldn’t pay as much for that.
However, those of us who are innocent, microwave-brain-damaged-cell-phone-users would appreciate at quick peek at your “cow towers”.
Neat
Ellie looks bored.
Great story, Ellie! I’ve been an AT&T customer for many years!
@robseraiva lmao but nah i got geico :(
why do people knod their heads up and down like that like they comprehend everything and everything is ok? i catch myself doing it sometimes. i feel it may be a tick of denial.
Back in the 80’s BellAlantic split up and two companies formed, AT&T and Bell, then Bell became Verizon.
im sorry guys.. but im not really good with this internet thing.
can someone please explain to me what does it mean with increasing capacity and not increasing speed. doesnt capacity means like, more people can use the service, and with not so much traffic due to many people, the speed of internet can be increase..
does capacity really not correlate with speed?
@bie5436 you’re completly right by saying that capacity means more people can use the service, but all must use the same speed; the only time speed is a problem is when lots of people (such as 14k of geeks) want to use the service at the same time. Then you start to choke the system.
capacity means more people can use their service at the same time, it doesn’t increase speed of 3g/calls, just improves signal quality.
@hijoeturre yes, it is you fucking retard
Could they park on of them between my bedroom and the living room, because me signal always dies when I try to walk through the house.
fuck you faggots for selling to sony.
i hope someone fucking snipes your bitch ass when you walk out the front door.
Vodafone in the UK already has those signal boosters available, lulz.
Pretty nice. I approve AT&T!
I call bullshit. This is not an exclusive interview it’s just an advert.
The paties were good, Ellie is a little bit tired
Awesome mobile cancer center guys
Way to see a story opportunity… very, very interesting!
interesting!
but I didn’t get how the network is communicating with the truck… surely it cannot be wired…
They do this to make sure no one complains like at CES. Go Verizon.
@hijoeturre ha ha ha ha lol put up a temporary solution
@donpatch4312 HAI! My name is Sarcasm, I don’t think we’ve met before.
[...] COWs and use them to augment the cell towers in the local area. This particular cow featured in a Rocketboom interview does 2G, 3G and WiFi and an increasing number of people have likely noticed AT&T WiFi [...]
@hijoeturre hahaha. it’s a start!
I tried to drive one of those trucks through McDonald’s drive-thru.
There’s a video of it on failblog.
SXSW rocks! We wanna get networked!
you’re kidding right? you don’t need wires to communicate. the video is about cell phones. think
I have respect for AT&T, always good.
good report.
I wonder what readings of electromagnetic radiation they’d get in those trucks.
@quietthomas the radiation is not on the trcks but on the antenas on the towers.
@skollll radiation is everywhere! But yes, I get what you’re saying. Although I still wonder whether they’ve done any cancer cluster surveys of workers involved with those trucks.
Verizon’s ads are puffery. They show all of their coverage including the areas where the signal is weakest, and then they only show AT&Ts peak coverage where the signal is strongest. If you looked at Verizons peak coverage you’d see it looks the same as AT&Ts peak coverage. They just chose not to show both maps with full coverage because that wouldn’t be as dramatic. Don’t bother bitching me out about my comment because I’m about to go to bed soon.
Not all of your subscribers are from the USA, keep that in mind when you make videos.
hmm, nice observation
If Ellie doesn’t lay off those Twinkies she’s going to be a cow herself. :-P
Austin Texas, the only refuge for real humans in the whole state.
@Desarollo you think what my question is. I was wondering about the truck’s backhull communication and now I noticed that it uses optic fiber. so yeah… it is wired
What about radiation being a hazard? Isn’t that a problem?
I love ellie
Cool Stuff
[...] COWs and use them to augment the cell towers in the local area. This particular cow featured in a Rocketboom interview does 2G, 3G and WiFi and an increasing number of people have likely noticed AT&T WiFi [...]
pfft, since when was being spiderman a problem?
I love the questions Ellie asks while she’s in the COW so we get answers about 2G, 3G and Wifi connected with the backhaul because it’s so easy to forget what you want to ask in order to get the best answers for your video and when your done with the interview you end up thinking, ‘I should have asked this or that’. But I think Ellie asked the best questions and asked them appropriately to get the most detailed answers for this tech vid.
did little cook died?
I want him to call her a cow.
3 videos in a row without molly? :c
she doesn’t have a clue..
@ByBleeker i herd she was admitted
Forced advertising sucks. Real youtubers hate the “monetizing” of youtube and the internet. Commercial mainstream media does that and it is crap.

It’s awesome technology, but all I could think was, “We at AT&T recognize that our network is barely holding together a the best of times. So when tens of thousands of people converge in one area, we’d be totally screwed unless we rolled these COWs out!”
@southwest702 what do you mean?
@ByBleeker mental institution
@southwest702 where did you hear that?
@ByBleeker well it is Molly i just figured
@ByBleeker ellie’s cool too but molly is the best
i love how there’s a verizon ad right before the at&t video. it’s just too funny…
You seriously think that the radiation given off by these towers is dangerous? They’re smaller and give off less radiation than larger towers to begin with but also humans are dosed with radiation everyday from the sun, and that dose is increased the higher you live (everytime you fly it increases ten-fold) unless you absorb an stupidly large dose (which would be impossible from these towers) your life wont be affected in anyway by your daily dose of radiation from mobile etc.
this video sucks cause it has AT&T in it.
Cool.
And you do?
How does rocketboom make money? They barely have views…
they put out a lot of videos
@RoeNand
How does anybody on the Internet make money? They don’t.
23,000 views is not nothing, though.
Nobody is watching television either.
I think everyone on earth is either: 1. rotting their brain playing video games or 2. actually going outside and living.
You should say that AT&T doesn’t really exist anymore. What was left of AT&T was bought up by SBC Communications Inc. in 2005 (headquartered in Dallas, Texas) which wisely changed its name to at&t which is why the new logo is in lower case letters.
@southwest702
It’s really not as hard as people think it is to get admitted. I’m sure a majority of YouTubers could pass the entrance exam without even studying.
@RoeNand They might qualify for government grants, run advertising (on some pages), accept commissioned stories/story ideas (like this one for at&t might have got them all a year’s worth of free calls as “thanks”) plus their overheads are probably pretty low. Maybe everyone is a volunteer? Maybe they don’t plan to make much profit but sell up in a year or two?
“These are converters that uh come in via fibre optics and then it converts it into ethernet? Right?”
She just needs to begin with “I personally believe…” to complete that sentence…
@ReliableInsider entrance exam?? they used to just throw me in there against my will
AT&T is awful
What was that? Who gives a shit what’s on the inside of AT&T mobile “cow” towers?
i play video games outside
got’em
That’s some quality head-nodding going on there
Very true.
@GBuster026 Plus, radiowaves tend to be too weak to get past the skin, or I would assume even clothing.
With no one to protect them
Put this into the youtube search engine.
If you can get to minute 6 WITHOUT crying…
I’ll PERSONALLY send you 25.00 with paypal.
Seriously.
Try it.
You win. lol
dis is gay how i use my tracfone on dis thang
Did you actually watch the video?
@motorbabyusa yes, it was very boo-hoo we can’t cover our users. verizon must be doing something right.
Why is somebody practising their drumming technique just behind the camera? Couldn’t you ask that guy to get the heck outta there?
Not everything ROCKETBOOM is worth watching,… (sigh)
[...] How AT&T dealt with the insanely high network traffic [...]
I was there and the service was still very backlogged despite the trucks.
I was showing full bars but had to try 2 or three times to just send out a text and calling out was almost impossible!
Cute chick
nevertheless, watching Ellie is always worth it ;)
i hope they paid a lot for this ad?!
The God of All Comfort
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.2 Corinthians 1:3-5
For the people who think this says something about AT&T’s coverage: other mobile phone companies use them too. They also go by the names Cell In A Box (CIAB) and Cell On Light Trainer (COLT). They’re used in emergencies, at big events, and routinely in places where the provider is allowed to park a trailer, but may not erect a permanent structure (military bases, for example).
Thank for the look inside one, @rocketboom. I’m surprised that the wiring and layout weren’t neater; perhaps the COW has been around for a while and the 3G and WiFi are addons. What technologies do they use for backhaul? What were they using when you visited them?
@mattblack77nz Thank you for the explenation
@mattblack77nz Thank you for the explanation
@mattblack77nz Thank you for the explanation.
