In the article they say the parameters of apples and oranges were compared with an Apple Macintosh 8500 computer, but “No significance should be inferred from the type of computer used, nor was any bias introduced because of this”. In a month I read no less than 20-25 long scientific articles and as far as I can remember this is the first time they point out the type of the computer used for the calculations. As if it is a significant information.
I don’t have a simplistic view about conflicts of interest, and I don’t oppose ads and sponsorship by private companies, but I want full transparency and the reader shouldn’t be tricked this way.
Of course if you hear that somebody is wasting time and money to “compare” apples and oranges you should soon get on the lookout.
